Lassen Volcanic National Park, California, USA

Its a froggy frog world
notforfree!'s official creative retreat in Lassen National Park. We saw some boiling hot springs in Bumpass Hell, had an entire lake to ourselves for a day, and stayed in a crowded house with a talkative gentleman + two roomates in Westwood, CA. (there is a reason why the airbnb was only $30/night.) We hiked 3 miles into the land and spent the day at the secluded Cliff lake. It had a variety of terrain to explore, including some big ol granite rocks, a stream, an island, and of course frogs and tadpoles. We swam out into the middle of the lake, got sun-burned and watched the tadpoles look up at us for the majority of the day. As Warren put it; the trip was just the right amount of instability to not only keep us on edge but to act as a refresher from our regular routines. The sunsets and overall atmosphere in this area of California is absolutely unreal.

Bumpass hell in Lassen national Park, California is a sulfuric death smelling place of geothermic activity & endless beauty. Hydrothermal pools steam & bubble, as do the creeks that connect them. Bumpass Hell earned it’s name when Pioneer, Kendall Vanhook Bumpass, stumbled into a boiling pocket of earth that incinerated his leg so badly it required amputation. Straying from the trail is strictly forbidden for this reason.
