Why Doing Television Is Hard

Recently, members of your FreakShow Deluxe were able to get together because we were all in the same place, for a change.

While we were there to do this television thing, Reverend Tommy Gunn shared some thoughts about why it seems every sideshow performer we know seems to hate working television.

So, I first assumed I’d be learning more in my Technical Production class then with Joel for the production. I was dead wrong. Today in TP we learned how to use drills to screw, drill and unscrew. I had previously learned how to do so from Joel when making the window structure. Comparing the two, I liked learning from Joel better then my TP teacher. Joel told me how the drill worked and demonstrated and told me a few key factors to keep in mind (Like keeping and using a lot of pressure with the wood we were using.) Joel was nice if i messed up and encouraged me to keep trying and when I was obviously frustrated with myself, he’d take over and finish then have me try again. He also helped me identify what the noises meant, like if the screw was going from one wood to the other or if I was stripping the nail head. My TP teacher didn't do any of that. He just gave up two pieces of wood and said have at it. Since Joel taught me, I knew what I was doing. But it took a few other students the whole ten minutes to get one screw in. I could tell when someone was stripping the screw head and tried to help them but my teacher just came over and said ‘You’re doing it wrong, use more pressure.” and showed them the right way. It just annoyed me. During class we also went over some hand tools on a cabinet which I found boring because I already used them with Joel. At least I know I can ace the next Technical Production test later this week.
