Pairing: Bucky x Reader

A/N: Hieeee! I hope this is what you had in mind because I had so much fun writing it! Thank you so much and I loved this request because I am terrified of thunder and the rain after my last car accident lmao. I have a few more slots open for requests so you can send them here if you want to request something!
Another crack of thunder echoed in the distance and you flinched, nearly spilling your cup of tea. You resigned yourself to a night in when you checked the weather that morning and it showed a one hundred percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the night. Bucky asked if you wanted to go out, but you made some excuse to stay home. It hurt having to tell him “no” and the disappointment in his voice almost changed your mind. You knew better than to go out in the middle of a storm so you got a cup of tea, shut all the windows and wrapped yourself in a blanket on your couch.
You tried to distract yourself, but each clap of thunder was louder than the last and put you more on edge. Before long, you were clutching your cup of cold tea that you hadn’t even bothered to take a sip of as the storm raged on. Some documentary played on your television, but you had lost interest a few minutes in. Even through the closed curtains, the lightning outside lit up your living room and sent chills down your spine.
A distraction finally came when your phone rang from the kitchen. You grabbed your blanket, wrapped it around yourself like a cape, and fumbled through the dark until you found your ringing phone on the counter. Would it have been easier to turn on the light? Most likely, but this way just made more sense. You picked up your phone to see Bucky was calling you and you smiled a goofy grin at his picture on your screen.
“Hello?” You answered before it had a chance to go to voicemail.
“Hey, Y/N, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize it was gonna rain tonight when I asked if you wanted to go out.” His voice sounded muffled, but you could hear him well enough. “I just wanted to see you.”
“Bucky, you don’t have to apologize.” You said as you walked aimlessly around your kitchen. “I wanted to see you too, but you know how these crazy storms freak me out.”
“I know and I completely forgot, but don’t worry, I’m on my way over.”
“Really? Please be careful, Bucky!” You rushed to the nearest window as if he was going to be standing there already.
“Don’t worry, I left a little while ago and I've got a surprise for you too.” You could practically hear him grinning and you were suddenly feeling like a giddy schoolgirl. Bucky had the tendency to make you forget about whatever it was that had you all worked up and replace your anxiety with pure affection for the man you loved.
“Okay, I can’t wait to see you!”
“Me too. I’ll see you soon dollface.” You hung up and almost forgot about the storm before the familiar boom of the thunder reminded you why you’d been in your Comfy Clothes all day.
After suffering through the storm on your own for a little while longer, you saw the familiar headlights pull up to your driveway. Bucky jumped out his car and ran to your front door where you already had it half open for him. He rushed in and shook the rain off like a dog would after splashing through a big puddle. You smiled at the water dripping from his hair and fought the urge to run your hands through it.
“Hey, doll, sorry I kept you waiting.” Bucky greeted you with a kiss on the cheek as you helped him get his raincoat off.
“Babe, don’t worry about it, I’m just glad you’re here.” You let out a sigh of relief you didn’t even realize you were holding in until Bucky walked through your door. “What’s that you got there?” You asked cheekily, gesturing to the big brown bag he was holding.
“Oh this?” He held it over your head, just out of your reach. “This is for my best girl for when she’s scared and I’m not there to help her feel better.”
“Is that so? And who could this lucky girl be?” You stood up on your tiptoes so you were right up against his chest and just under his nose. “Because I think I can make a pretty good guess on who she is.”
You closed the distance between you and kissed him full on the mouth, getting a taste of the rain drops that had not yet dried. Bucky’s arm lowered as he put more of his focus into kissing you back so you reached up and grabbed the bag out his hand once it was in reach. It was a silly trick, but you knew it would work. You peered into the bag and your face lit up while Bucky watched you with a satisfied smile on his face.
“Do you like it?” Bucky asked as you pulled out a brown stuffed bear with a silver locket around its neck. “This little guy can help me keep an eye on you when it gets bad.”
“Bucky, I love it!” You pulled it out the bag and gave the bear a big squeeze. “It’s absolutely beautiful!”
“Just like you.” He pulled the necklace off the bear and put it around your neck. “I can’t always be here so just look at this and remember I’m always thinking about you, no matter what.”
Your fingers opened the locket to reveal a small photo of you and Bucky from last summer after you two had started dating. His sweet smile would always be with you and you were completely overwhelmed by his sweet gesture.
“You are so incredible to me, I can’t believe it sometimes.” You got on your tiptoes to kiss him again and he smiled into your lips.
“There isn’t much I wouldn’t do to show you how much I love you, Y/N.”
That night, you slept soundly with that teddy bear in your arms under a blanket with the man you loved most. Thunderstorms be damned because you had Bucky and he was never going to let you go.
