HTTYD Modern AU Ideas
Their childhood will be set during Httyd 1 RoB and Rtte all clashed and mixed together (I have to rewatch RoB my memory of it is kinda blurry).
Httyd 1 basically the AU!riders trying to convince their parents to buy them their pets but they think they are nothing but work until the pets stand their ground to protect the riders from like a big grey pitbull (the green death) or any other stray dog.
RoB/Rtte is when they are around 10, it’s them training their pets, racing with them on their bikes calling it dragon racing (mind you the kids already love dragons) going on adventures with them etc. Mildew’s the annoying old man tying to catch the pets and give them away to authorities. Alvin is something like that too probably, haven’t decided yet. Dagur, Heather, and Eret are the “cool” older kids of the neighborhood. Dagur used to be bullied when he was younger so he naturally sees the kids as a targets but they don’t just sit down and take it they talk back, stand their ground and one day Toothless scratches Dagur’s face leading to the scar. Then on they are officially rivals. Heather and Eret back him up and there are two teams. The kids attack them with their pets.
I’m keeping Eret around cause the riders being purposefully annoying towards him while he’s trying to be this “cool chill guy” brings me so much amusement. He later joins Viggo’s company cause he needs the money after his father’s death a few years after the current events. Viggo/Ryker/Drago will come with a job offering.
Btw Fishlegs definitely has a crush on Heather.
Around this time an ancient takes place and a relic gets destroyed (maybe something like the dragon eye from the tv series ,again, undecided) and it intoxicates the pets leading to the kids being super worried and taking them to the vet. The vet (Gothi probably lol) has no idea what it could be and tells the kids to be ready for anything. The kids are devastated they don’t want to say goodbye to their pets. They all go to bed super late that night watching their pets. Then boom the next morning they start to grow scales. Then the morning after teeny tiny wings. That’s right they are turning into dragons. Very slowly. Fully dragons by the time they are 16-17 probably. This where Viggo and Ryker come in (when the pets start transforming). They will strat hunting the dragons for their skin since they have never seen anything like it before. The pets can transform back to their normal pet selves for short periods of time but like a few hours at best.
Either we can go in this direction or go full on harbor town AU mode and keep it real life.
Sir Ulgerthorpe is that one time they put yellow paint on Snotlout’s hair and gave him new clothes to create a diversion as the riders free their pets lol.
