summary: feeling increasingly left behind as everyone around her settles into relationships, trinity begins to question whether she's simply too much for anyone to love. a casual invitation to a bar from her best friend might be the first step toward changing that.
authors note: i'm planning on this being a whole series so sorry this first chapter is not really beefy... next one will be better trust!
other chapters here!
trinity was kind of a bitch when it came to dating.
her past relationships, if she could even call them that, always ended badly. in high school, sheâd taken every one far more seriously than they deserved. that was, until her attitude eventually got the best of her. boys her age were just too immature and werenât capable of handling someone who challenged them.
at least, thatâs what sheâd always told herself.
as she nears twenty-three, loneliness creeps into every moment of trinityâs life. practically all of her friends seem to have found the one, and each conversation somehow circles back to their perfect love lives. even her shifts at the hardware store involve committed couples debating which color to paint their living room, as if determined to show her how happy they are.
trinity now sits cross-legged on her bed, watching raindrops race each other along her apartment window. her appreciation for gloomy weather has continued to grow since moving away from virginia. after years of sweating through muggy summers, the cool drizzle feels like a relief that, unfortunately, also leaves far too much room for her own thoughts.
a family walks down the sidewalk, their children making splashes in any puddle they find. the parents laugh so hard theyâre almost in tears every time they get drenched.
she keeps her gaze on them for a moment longer.
am i too much for someone?
âwhat?â
the words leave her mouth before she even realizes sheâd said it aloud.
and also while on the phone with her best friend, kayda.
she hated admitting that they met at a speed dating event during their freshman year of college. it sounded desperate whenever trinity said it out loud, though that wasnât the case at all. she signed up hoping itâd be funny; but ironically found it hard to stay interested. most of the conversations had been painfully terribleâexcept for one.
he and trinity had spent more time laughing at the icebreakers than actually reading them. each card he picked up got more and more baffling, as the questions suddenly went from: âwhatâs your favorite pet?â to âwhatâs your favorite sex position?â
after practically running out of air, they eventually answered and even had the same choices: cats and doggystyle.
but before she could get his number, or even ask for his name, he suddenly disappeared. that was just her luck. she knew then it was a mistake to attend something serious as a joke, because she actually ended up disappointed in the end.
on her way out the door, she bumped into kayda for the first time. they both bonded over the strangest one hour experience of their life. two opposite ones, in fact. trinity had met someone she never saw again, meanwhile kayda had met zach and somehow never got rid of him.
these days, she's a third wheel all too often.
âhellooo? trinity?â kayda waves to the camera. âwhat did you say?â
ânothing. iâm justâŠâ trinity flops onto her pillow. âi want a man.â
kayda scoffs. âtrust me, girl. itâs not all itâs cut out to be.â
âwhat happened nowâŠ?â
âiâll tell you later. this conversation isnât about me, itâs about you, and weâre going to find you the best boyfriend on this planet.â
a snort escapes trinity. âokay, and where is he?â
âlisten,â kayda starts hesitantly. âignore the shade i just threw against him, but later this week us and some of zachâs college friends are going to go out to this bar, and i think you should totally come.â
âare you sure? are they like⊠normal?â
kaydaâs face deadpans. âyes, dude. theyâre normal.â
with a sigh, trinity throws her hands up in the air. âmy bad! considering how much iâve come to learn about zach over the years, i have to make sure that the other people he surrounds himself with arenât borderline weirdos.â
kayda goes silent. maybe trinity threw that on her a little too harsh, but after everything that zach had put them through, it was difficult to feel guilty.
their sophomore year, after zach had graduated, he was convinced that kayda was cheating on him while she was on campus. he moved himself into trinity and kaydaâs shared apartment with no warning, claiming he needed to keep an eye on things.
his investigation lasted almost five months before trinity finally convinced him to leave. she explained to him that he needed to stop being a âmonitoring spiritâ in the girlsâ living space, and he reluctantly agreed.
after about ten seconds of awkward silence, kayda breaks it. âwhatever. youâre right. but still, you should come.â
the corners of trinityâs lips tug upward. âiâll think about it.â
âdonât, youâll overthink. weâll pick you up at nine on saturday.â
the words âcall overâ blast onto the screen before trinity can protest. tossing her phone onto the sheets, she starts to stare out the window again but stops.
trinity knows she shouldnât feel so sorry for herself. she also knows sheâll find the right person eventually. she had to.
but why did it feel so much easier for everyone else?

warnings: swearing, drinking, prom after parties
âalright. Prom is a week away. Everyone remember the plan?â Ted asked as he sat down at the table. Bryce and I looked at each other.
âwhat plan?â Bryce asked. Ted rolled his eyes as he started to eat. âIâm serious Ted. What plan?â
âDates Bryce. How weâre gonna get dates.â Ted exclaimed. I sighed and pushed my tray away, no longer hungry.
âthereâs no way Iâm getting one.â I muttered before getting up. âSee you guys later.â
âcomputer club meeting tonight!â Ted called after me. I waved him off as I headed out towards the football field. Climbing the stands, I pulled out my math book and started on some homework. The bleachers groaned as someone climbed up towards me. I looked up and smiled softly when I saw Bryce.
âHey I know Iâm not who youâd expect or really want to ask you but doyouwannagotoprom?â He asked. I stared at him before cocking my head.
âwhat?â I asked, marking my page and putting down the book. âI did not understand a word that you just said.â Bryce took a deep breath as I continued to look at him.
âdo you wanna go to prom? With me?â He asked, slower this time. I chewed on my lip before nodding.
âIâll go to prom with you.â I said. Bryce smiled and nodded.
âalright. Cool. Ugh Iâll pick you up then. Usual time.â I nodded again before heading back inside with him. The week passed in a blur and before I knew it we were walking into the gym hand in hand. The music was loud and bryce frowned as he tugged on his headphones. âThis isnât what I had in mind.â
âme neither.â Ted ran off as soon as we got past the ticket booth leaving bryce and I to awkwardly stand by the wall. âWanna dance?â I shouted over the music. Bryce shook his head and I squeezed his hand tighter. We spent most of the night making jokes and watching everyone else enjoy prom. Ted came back with drinks, clearly spiked before leaning over to talk to Bryce. I stepped closer to hear him better.
âI got us invited to an after party.â Ted said, smiling at us. âWeâll take my car and head over.â Bryce shook his head.
âweâll take my car. The punch was spiked ted.â Bryce said, holding Ted by the shoulder. Ted tried to wave him off before finally agreeing. We started to troop out to the car when he looked at me. "Sorry about ditching the prom." I shrugged.
"An after party could be fun." I said, squeezing his hand. Ted gave us directions to the house. There was no parking so Bryce parked on my block before we walked over. I sighed as I realized it was Jake Ryanâs house. Looking over at Bryce, I frowned as Ted ran up the stairs.
âby the way itâs Jakeâs house.â Ted said as he opened the door and rushed in. Bryce stood by the door and looked at me as I rocked on my heels.
âcan we just go home?â I asked. âItâs much more quiet there and even though my parents arenât there, itâs better than this.â Bryce took my hand and smiled at me as we headed back down the street. Bryce paused on my porch and watched as I unlocked the door. âWant to come in?â He nodded as he followed me in. We headed up to my room and laid down on the bed as I went into the bathroom to change. Coming back out, I laid down next to him.
âwant some music?â He asked, unplugging the headphones from his Walkman. I shrugged and he pushed play.
âthatâs cool.â I said as I played with the machine in my hands. Bryce nodded.
âitâs really cool honestly. How it reads the tape.â He said, watching the small box in my hands.
âyeah?â I asked. Bryce nodded with a smile.
âyeah.â He said as he reached out for the box. I gave it to him and curled into his side as he picked up his arm for me. âHere let me show youâ
Pairings: Bryce Tankthrust x Gender Neutral Reader
Summary: After your mostly successful date with Bryce, you decide to ask her out a few weeks later.
Warnings: Fluff ~ A bit of a slow burn (2000+ words) ~ Non-specified gender of reader
A/N: Surprise, surprise. Another extremely overdue fic. My consistency is trash to say the least đ BUT I am working on that this year. I have too many ideas for my new and current fav fandoms to not post at least once a month. Change is coming, my dudes. Change. Is. ComingâŠ
Your first night together had been the subject of your sweet dreams and distracted mind at work. Three times youâd forgotten to reschedule her meetings. Three times youâd filed important documents in the wrong folder and had to search the entire file cabinet for it. Twice youâd gone quiet and simply stared at her watched her in her element, such as the time you walked into her office while she was on the phone.
âYou want maternity leave? Oh, but Janet, I have meningococcal meningitis and I still came in to not do my job.â
She looked up at the sound of you entering, briefly meeting your confused and concerned expression. She waved you away to let you know she wasnât being serious before rolling her eyes at whatever was being said on the phone.
The other time, there wasnât anything particularly interesting going on. Sheâd been sitting at her desk for a while, reading and signing off on a heap of documents. Every now and then, she mumbled something about âentitled needy assholesâ while going through the payroll budget for the projected year. She lit a cigarette, taking a drag between pages.Â
You were supposed to be organizing the file cabinet and shredding any âunsavory items.â You tackled each drawer one section at a time and made slight adjustments to the system for clarity. Though, like other times when you were in close proximity to her, you worked slower than normal.Â
For weeks, youâd been building up the courage to ask Bryce out: typing out scripts on your phone, realizing it was weird before deleting them; practicing in the mirror between bouts of laughter and cringing; watching YouTube videos; LOTS of pep talks that inevitably led nowhere. It didnât help that every time you had the opportunity, someone or something stood in your way.Â
One day the copy machine got jammed and wouldnât connect to the network. You spent the rest of the day trying to fix it with a technician who barely spoke English, going back and forth between your limited knowledge and a translator app to get the task done.
Another day two employees got into an argument over the last donut in the break room.
Another day had FIVE MEETINGS with various employees and potential investors, droning on and on until your brain was on the brink of shutting down and your hope for going outside for fresh air seemed like a fever dream. Surely your detestation for humanity couldnât get any worse.
But that day would be different. It HAD to be.
Just ask her out, you thought. The worst thing she can say is no. Or fire you.Â
You held back a sigh, focusing on the paper in your hands before your thoughts could spiral further. It was from a few years ago, out of place in the sea of recent documentation. You turned to ask her if she wanted to keep it, though the words caught in your throat.
She took a long drag from the cigarette, visibly deflating as the smoke flowed from between her full red lips. Then she tossed the pen onto the desk, leaning back in her chair with a mildly bored expression. The movement spun her in your direction though she looked to her left out of the window at the busy city below. The late afternoon sun beamed through the open blinds, casting an uneven glow that accentuated her brown eyes and made up features. Her auburn hair shone, the neat curls framing her face in an almost angelic way. She wasnât Bryce, the beautiful yet shrewd CEO envied and feared by millions. She was just Bryce, a beautiful woman going through the motions of life.
 Her eyes met yours.
Your heartbeat stuttered, heat traveling up your neck. Her lips twitched.
âI, uh, I donât know if you want to keep this one or not,â you said, holding the paper out for her to take.
She took it but barely glanced at it before balling it up and tossing it over her shoulder. You caught a whiff of her perfume, a light floral scent you willed yourself not to inhale too deeply. A familiar tension filled the space between you, one that was as exciting as it was intimidating. It was a silent dance, one where she ruled without hesitation. She crossed her legs slowly, a knowing glint in her eyes as you struggled to focus. A dare.
âActually, there was something else Iââ
Her phone started ringing. You bit back a sigh, your nerve evaporating at the drop of a dime. She pressed her lips into a thin line, crushing snubbing out her cigarette in the ashtray on the windowsill. Reality settled back in as she snatched her phone from the desk and answered it. Your blossoming hope that it was Donovan quickly faded when she fell into a series of business jargon with one of her shareholders.
Later, you thought while tiptoeing out of her office. Itâs not a big deal.Â
It was several days later when you finally got another chance.
You had been busy the entire day. If you werenât at your computer, you were looking through a series of files to enter data into your computer. If not that, you were attending meeting after godawful meeting that dragged on longer than should be legal. You happened to be on your way to doing the latter, barely paying attention to where you were going in your frantic search for a particular page of charts needed for a presentation.
You had to pass by her office to get to the conference room. Unfortunately you didnât get past the first door as it swung open, colliding with your forehead and arm holding onto the files. The bundle scattering across the floor was the least of your concern as a sharp, throbbing pain spread through your head.Â
You cursed, hunching over while pressing a hand to the area to ease the pain.Â
âDamn it, Donovan! Do you know how hard it is to find good employees?â
Bryce was in your space in seconds, her soft hands and perfume falling over you. Suddenly the pain didnât seem too bad.
âMy apologies,â Donovan said.
âItâs fine,â you said, wincing. âIt was my fault for not paying attention.â
âDo you have a concussion? How many fingers am I holding up? Do you need to go to the hospital?â Bryce asked.
You huffed out a laugh, a smile settling on your lips.
âNo, Iâm okay.â
âCan I get you anything?âÂ
You started to reassure her once again that you were fine until a thought came to mind. It was inevitable that the meeting would run longer than the stated two hours. The workday would practically be over, not that Bryce would stay until then. How long would you continue to push the date off? Until tomorrow? Next week? A month?
No, it was now or never.
âSome ice and maybegoingoutwithme?â
She turned to Donovan to order him to get the ice when she paused, glancing back over her shoulder at you.
âWhat did you say?â
You took a deep breath before you laid your heart out.
âWill you go out with me?â
Time crawled at a snailâs pace as you waited with bated breath for her answer. It was always nerve wracking when she got quiet. Usually, it meant she was two seconds away from putting a bullet between someoneâs eyes, engulfed by a composed yet no less terrifying fury. (You found this out within the first couple of months of working for her.) Now, however, her face was mostly neutral but after so long of studying her way of doing things and staring far more than youâre willing to admit, you could tell by the subtle lift of her eyebrows and a certain vulnerability behind her eyes that this was new territory.
The days leading up to Saturday night wereâŠinteresting.
Maintaining your usual professionalism proved more difficult than you expected. Every time you and Bryce were in the same room, your eyes always found each otherâs. You both created every excuse to be near each other, sitting side by side whenever possible and lingering in your offices between tasks. And the touchesâthe way you thought back to each brush of her fingers when handing her something to the self-assured way she linked her arm with yours to drag you off to some unknown placeâŠ. You were smitten to put it lightly.Â
A simple picnic in your backyard was what you decided on. When your grandparents still lived there, theyâd started a garden, one which was heavily juxtaposed with the rest of the house. Light brown fencing closed it off from the outside world. Stone paths separated the food plants and patches of flowers from the small seating area. The seating area was enclosed by its own fencing, its entrance a white wooden archway adorned with pink and white flowers.
The night before Saturday, you raked away stray leaves, swept and hosed down the paths, and scrubbed the furniture. Luckily, you had a long extension cord in the attic so, on Saturday afternoon, you placed your grandparentsâ well loved Victrola that somehow still worked on the coffee table, setting a box of records from well known 20th century crooners on the ground.
Two hours before you were due to pick her up, you gathered up and lit every candle you had, lining a path towards the seating area. You placed a bottle of champagne in a bowl of ice and sat it on the side table next to the loveseat. Next: the food.
You figured a charcuterie board would be a nice idea. Setting all the ingredients out on your counter, you pulled up a few inspiration pictures on your phone and got to work laying out the various meats, vegetables, fruits, cheeses, and crackers onto a baking sheet. Though you didnât have one of those wooden boards and the colors werenât as complimentary as in the photos, your stomach grumbled while admiring your handiwork.Â
You checked the time, your eyes widening. You were supposed to pick her up at eight. It was half past seven, and her house was thirty minutes away.Â
After shoving the tray into the fridge, taking a quick shower, and destroying your closet for something to wear, you were off. It was twenty minutes after eight oâclock when you pulled into her driveway and started up the path to the door.Â
You straightened your clothes, swiping at stray pieces of lint and taking a deep breath before you rang the doorbell. Not even a minute later, she opened the door.Â
âHey, sorry IâmâŠlateâŠ,â your voice trailed off as you took in her appearance.
Her clothes were more casual than your previous date though no less luxurious. A red sweater dress and black thigh high boots clung to her body. Her makeup was light, her nearly bare skin glowing beneath the bright porch light. You thought she couldnât possibly get more attractive yet there you stood, speechless.
âHey,â she said.
It took a second longer for you to process her speaking to you and another second to force words to leave your mouth.Â
âYou look great.â
She raised an eyebrow. âOnly great? I recall being âravishingâ the last time.â
âNo, youâre perfect. I meanââ you stopped talking as she smirked, your face warming with embarrassment.Â
âReady?â
You willed yourself to calm down, settling for a nod instead of words as you two headed for your house.
After pulling into your driveway, you went around to help her out of the car, tamping down the goofy smile threatening to overcome you as she continued to hold onto your hand. Hers was warm, soft, her blood red nails glowing in the dim light.
As you guided her to the sidegate leading to the backyard, she took in your old home, a far cry from the finery she surrounded herself in daily. You supposed it couldâve been worse. It couldâve still been barely standing after the wind pushed the tree in the front yard onto the roof. Your grandparents thought tarps and security cameras made up for cold nights and hot days in a house already overlooked by any thief adamant on not wasting their time.Â
Though the inside was a step up from the exterior, you were grateful that they cared for the garden as much as they did. The moment you unlocked the gate, it was like a completely different place. The trail of candles casted an enchanting glow over the crops and flowers, the light breeze intertwining with a constant fresh earthy scent.Â
The short walk to the end of the yard was filled with silence, though a glance out of the corner of your eyes told you it was a good one. Her eyes were slightly wide as she took in the space, brown irises shimmering with curiosity and warmth.
You guided her to sit on the loveseat before excusing yourself to retrieve the charcuterie board, juggling that plus two champagne flutes between your fingers. You carefully lowered the tray onto the coffee table, managing to find a bit of space left to sit the glasses down as well. You made one more trip, plugging in the extension cord on one end and dragging the other end back to the seating area to plug in the Victrola.
âYouâve thought of everything,â she said, her voice soft.
âI may have went a little bit overboard,â you avoided her eyes, âI wanted everything to be perfect.â
âIâm not with you because I expect some grand gestures.â
She reached out, taking your hand within hers again and pulling you down to sit next to her. You swallowed down your gasp. It took everything in you not to combust, her warmth and perfume and natural aura radiating towards you.
âW-Why then?â You managed to ask.
She looked at your joined hands, the silence stretching on as she got lost in her thoughts. Eventually, she sighed before returning your gaze. Her expression was relaxed, vulnerable in a way you hadnât seen before. It was reluctant, honed from many instances of disappointment, yet its edges were lined with a spark of rare hope she had long buried beneath her rich facade.Â
âYou stayed.â
Those two words lingered heavy in the air between you, heartbreaking and touching all at once. Questions ran through your mind, pondering what happened that shaped her into who she is, how many times sheâd been let down by the people she trusted. All you knew was that you wouldnât be like them. You wouldnât, not with her looking at you like someone who was already important to her.Â
Your eyes flicked down to her lips for a split second.
âBryce--â
She beat you to the punch, closing the distance between you. Her lips pressed carefully against your own, just as soft as you imagined too many times before. Your eyes closed as the rest of the world slipped away, bringing your free hand up to cup her face. Her confidence grew every second that passed as the kiss deepened. You were on cloud nine, your heart thudding against your chest, your thoughts jumbled with her, the way she leaned into you, and reassurances that you werenât dreaming.
You squeezed her hand after you both pulled away, a bashful smile on your face.Â
âYouâre alright, Tankthrust.â
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, though she squeezed your hand back.Â
A gentle calm settled in the air as you both ate and talked about anything and nothing, reveling in each otherâs company to the smooth ballads floating in the air.Â

After that very Friday night, you were filled with new energy. You used to see classic rom-coms to fill the void over the weekend but last weekend you did not because you were already overwhelmed with the dopamine rushing through your veins.
The Monday blues were replaced by the butterflies in your stomach. Everything seemed easy and beautiful, and you had the feeling that nothing wrong can happen now. The boy, the tall black-haired boy with those intoxicating deep brown eyes who was nothing more than an acquaintance to you became your first high school boyfriend.
The day was delightful, and you were filled with confidence this time it was not caffeine it was all you, it was your performance at the game on Friday night and it was Zach leading you to feel that way. Unfortunately, Zach had to rush to his grandmotherâs place on Sunday evening so he was not going to attend school today implying that you would not be able to flex about your boyfriend.
Though you had filled Jessica with all the information about the night in detail and she being the âshare it allâ girlfriend told everything to Justin, and it is a proven fact that people talk. It was not like you wanted to date Zach secretly, but it was better to surprise people in the hallway than to have those suspicious jealous stares at you.
It was lunch and you were sitting in the outer area of the school cafeteria all alone and enjoying your âme time.â But once you start dating, there is no real âme timeâ to spend. A text from Zach disrupted your peaceful lunch.
âHey babe, missing me?â said the text.
âNot really, I was actually spending my time with the love of my life, and you just interrupted in betweenâ you texted back.
âWhat do you mean? With whom?â the text from him sounded so possessive and sweet at the same time.
âFood. It is the love of life and always will beâ you replied.
âOh, I thought⊠Sorry to disturb you, I just wanted to tell you that I miss you and I will be coming to school tomorrow.â He texted back inserting a smiling and winking emoji.
âIâll be waiting!â you texted back with a wink emoji.
Your texting was interrupted by a husky voice saying âHey!â You looked up and found Clay standing in front of you. âIs this seat taken?â he asked gesturing towards an empty seat beside you. âHey, nerdy! No, you can sit. I can use some company.â You replied.
âSeems like you played well, Congrats Y/N,â said Clay in the most cheerful tone.
âThank you, Clay!â
âCool hoodie Jensen. Gotta say I love your hoodies so much that I feel like stealing them.â You commented on his hoodie.
Clay chuckled and said âYou can just borrow them if you want, I will not deny. I would not recommend stealing because you know my mumâs a lawyer soâŠâ
âOh my god, are you threatening to sue me or something, I just meant it as a joke Clay.â
You were having a great lunch. Having a conversation with Clay was always refreshing and good for your blood pressure. You and Clay whenever had a conversation ended up disagreeing on various things like your favorite characters, books vs. movies, etc. Clay always challenged your opinions but you being you had the sole aim of getting him on your side and winning the argument.
The arguments were not arguments it was a mixture of laughing, mean comments, critiques, and being awkward on Clayâs part.
The company of two increased to three as Justin joined you guys after some time when the lunch was about to be over. You were about to leave when Clay asked you a question, âY/N, I am going to a movie this evening, wanna join?â
Before you could answer Justin interferes and says âDude, what are you doing? You cannot ask her out she is dating Zach.â
âJustin, I think Clay didnât mean it like that, did you Clay?â you reassured by looking at Clay.
Clay got all awkward and his face had a touch of regret, but he made sure you did not notice and said âNo, I meant as friends to hang out you know. Zach huh?â
âYeah Zach, no red flags about him, are there?â
âNah he is a good guy.â Said, Clay.
âHow come you did not know? I thought half of the school knew already.â
Clay grinned âWell I am the other half it seems. So, would you come to the movie? And I am asking as friends,â said Clay looking at Justin.
âSorry Clay I really want to, but I got to practice in the evening and then I gotta study for history. Can we do a rain check on that? It will be fun watching a movie.â
âYeah, yeah sure. Whenever you are free,â said Clay.
It was time for your practice, and you went into the girlsâ locker room to change into your workout clothes. Today your Coach was not going to instruct as he was on a leave so, you and the team were on their own. Today was physical, including running 15-20 laps and working on your core muscles. It was a tedious task and to be honest you enjoyed playing more than working out but sometimes we have to do things which we donât enjoy just for the betterment.
You got ready and put on your tights and a tank top and you went into the field and started stretching. There was no one there yet as you and Zach were the only punctual ones so you knew everyone else was going to be late or might even skip because it was physical after all and even the coach was not there to keep a check.
You were just starting to do your laps until Bryce showed up.
âHey Y/N, looking good,â said Bryce.
âHey! Thanks. Where do you think is everybody today? Skipping or just late?â you asked him.
âI donât know, no one texted me.â
âI know about Zach but others, no idea. You know what forget it, let us start the laps.â You suggested.
You and Bryce started running around the field talking in between about random things. Well, it was mostly Bryce talking and you listening. You did not vibe well with Bryce to talk and stuff, but you tolerated him just for the sake of the team spirit.
âWhy donât we skip too? We can hang out in the clubhouse. I mean the coach is not here. Itâs just us from baseball, no oneâs checking.â Proposed Bryce.
âUmm I donât know, I better get going to my place if weâre skipping too.â
âOh, come on Y/N for once learn how to have fun.â Said Bryce teasing you.
âIf you call smoking pot and drinking beer fun then no, thank you!â You replied ferociously.
âI was not talking about smoking pot, geez not with you. I know you do not like it. I was talking about just chilling in the clubhouse you know just talking and clicking pictures and stuff.â
Did Bryce care about what you liked or not? You thought to yourself but ignored it as you did not care. Upon his much more begging, you agreed to hang out with him in the clubhouse. You grabbed your blue varsity jacket as you didnât want to be cold and proceeded towards the clubhouse.
The environment of the clubhouse was cozy, and the lights were dim. Bryce put up some music in the background on your request. Mostly it was lo-fi music. You both were talking and drinking, Bryce was drinking beer and you stuck to your simple old drink of soda.
You and Bryce were sitting on the couch beside each other, and your phone was kept beside you on the couch. You got a text on your phone and turned to check it.
As you were checking the text you felt Bryceâs hands on your shoulders pressing them.
... (trigger warning)
âYou are so stressed.â Said Bryce.
âWhat the fuck Bryce?! Get your hands off me, you assholeâ you said, getting up and going towards the door to leave.
As you were leaving Bryce grabbed your hand and pulled you closer saying âHey wait up, we can have some fun.â
You pushed him away and said âNo! Now I know how come no one showed up to the practice as all of them are your bitches and you must have told them not to come so that you can have some âfunâ and Zach not being here just added to the advantage as he is the only one who doesnât always do what you say.â
âCome onâŠâ he insisted trying to pull you close again.
...
This time no was not going to work. You threw a punch at his face leading his nose to bleed. And you said âHurts, doesnât it? You should know I work out too. Oh no, you wouldnât know that because you are too busy staring at my ass the whole time.â
The punch was enough to stop Bryce from doing anything else. You ran up to your home straight into your room and cried your eyes out. You were proud that you took care of yourself but still, you felt like it was your fault.
At that moment you just wanted someone to be with you and comfort you. You couldnât even study for history and kept thinking how the evening would have been different if you went to the movie with Clay.
A/N: Damn she's brave isn't she? do you guys think that this incident will jeopardize her relationship with Zach? comment and tell me what you think, and of course wait for the next chapter to find out ^^

Thatâs great! I wanted to request headcanons where the reader is one of the M9 but after meeting finishing up in Alfield, they insist on being penpals with Bryce, sending them letters and small gifts from the M9s adventures. And somewhere along the way they both end up developing feelings for each other. Canât wait to see what you do with this!! (Sorry if the requests doubled up, I tried sending it once before but it kicked me out)
I hope this turned out to your liking! đ
Meeting Bryce was certainly under uncommon circumstances. Fighting off hoards of gnolls certainly leaves an impression. Though, itâs what came after the town was safe where you really hit it off with Bryce. They were already way in over their head, self control and the possibility of losing their job being the only thing of keeping them from telling exactly what they thought of the Starosta. You were kind enough to tell the Starosta exactly where he could stick his bullshit. That left an impression.
An offer to keep Bryce company and avert the judgemental gaze of Starosta Kosh was even more appreciated. You two hit it off right of the bat, sharing a drink or two to calm down the nerves and celebrate the townâs survival for yet another day. You helped around town for the time you spent there, not for coin but out of kindness, and for the people that lost everything. Bryce knew you had a good heart and a sharp mind, one that should not be wasted on a small town so even while they offered you to stay, on the payroll of the Empire, your life would take you elsewhere.
Still you stayed in contact. You built this friendship in a matter of days, why should it end when you go separate ways? You promised to each other to stay in touch, exchange letters whenever you could. Bryce did comment your travels would be much more eventful than the occasional fight with bandits or quarrel between farmers but you assured youâd enjoy their correspondence no less, adding that the life of an adventurer is not all glory and fame. Youâd make sure to describe the boring parts too so they can suffer with you.
And so you set off, sharing the greatness and pitfalls of adventuring for a living, sharing the pain and heartbreak, sharing the happiness, the reunions of those previously torn apart, and more. You sent little trinkets from across the lands; books from Zadash, a shiny dagger from Shadycreek Run, some tea from the Blooming Grove, a cask of ale from Trostenwald, Nicodranian fineries, seashells from the islands you visited and more.
Sure, there were certain things you could not share for your safety and theirs. You couldnât exactly tell Bryce about your adventures in Xhorhas, let alone the events transpired with the Mighty Nein and the Kryn Dynasty. You felt very guilty learning Bryce was being sent to fight in the against the Kryn and made sure to gently persuade them to stay out of the fray at certain times, providing a coincidental avoidance of a potential brush with death.
You visited whenever the Nein passed through Alfield to say hi and spend a day or two whenever possible and despite your lack of in person interactions, you still felt like close friends who had seen each other every day. More than friends even. While youâd spend much more time with the Nein and they certainly felt like your best friends, something about the relation between you and Bryce just felt different. Another level thatâs not quite friendship and goes a little beyond. Just something more. The feeling is mutual but neither of you really had the luxury to act on such things with you being whisked off into danger every time.
Despite your lack of time and with the knowledge words on paper can only do so much to convey a message better sent in person, you still tried and addressed the matter. It felt good doing so and you made the promise to talk in person, see where this would take you once things had calmed down. You couldnât ask for someone more supportive and understanding like Bryce. They understood you lived a life before your meeting and they would never expect you to give that up for anyone but yourself.
Then finally that fated day came along. You were able to send one last letter to Bryce before running into certain death and you bared everything, released all the secrets youâd previously had to keep, told them hat you were running into and what you might not return from and if you didnât let Bryce know you couldnât have wished for someone better than them to have been there for you.
Bryce had received the letter before your return and distraught still understood why you did what you did. They have to admit theyâd have done the same were they in your place. And while they worried for your fate, praying to the gods you would make a safe return, they couldnât think of anyone better suited to save the world. Bryce would sit and hope, think of you, watching the rolling hills every day whenever they could spare the time in the hopes of seeing that familiar silhouette appear on the horizon.
One day that silhouette did. At the end of a long shift, you appeared, bag slung over your shoulder, features worn and tired but alive and well and about a million experiences richer you could have done without. Bryce welcomed you with open arms and finally you could have that talk. You didnât just return to Alfield. You returned to Bryce. You returned home. Youâre finally home and this would just be the beginning of another adventure, just the two of you with the occasional tagalong visitors, but at the end of the day youâre together.

Love.
It was a very strong word, but it's meaning and effectiveness have been diluted over the modern years. A word carelessly thrown around. Regardless, hearing three words that let you know you were loved was heartwarming, to say the least.
But saying them? That was a whole diffeĆent story.
And acknowledging that you are, in fact, in love with someone was a slap in the face in itself.
Sunny stood in front of her stove, humming some popular song she heard on the radio on the way to her apartment. Bryce stood beside her, leaning against the counter, careful not to stain his clothes with the sprinkles of BBQ sauce on the surface. He watched her with the semblance of a smile on his handsome features, admiring the way her hands skilfully prepared the traditional Korean dish she was so excited to let him try.
"It took me soooo long to get this recipe down. My mom was a mean cook, and I was a fire hazard in the kitchen up until I had to drop my unhealthy habit of living off instant ramen," laughed Sunny, sparing him a side glance. She sighed in content moments later as she appreciated the calming sound of rain drops pounding on whatever surface they could find.
"And you're sure you got it right this time?" Bryce grinned teasingly. Sunny gasped melodramatically and spun on her heels to face the surgeon she grew attached to over her hectic first year as a medical intern.
"Listen here, you little shit!" She pointed an accusatory finger in his laughing face, knowing he found her ridiculous rather than intimidating considering she had to look up to meet his eyes. A mischievous glint in her doe-like eyes and the evil smirk that stretched across her plump lips told Bryce that he was done for.
Sunny grabbed the spoon she had used to stir the ingredients in the pan, covered in tiny food particles and BBQ sauce, and smeared it right across his cheek. His eyes widened at her unexpected action and his lips, despite his horrified shock, stretched into an amused grin. She doubled over in laughter at his reaction, clutching her stomach after her abdominal muscles began to ache. Jovial tears streamed down her cheeks.
Bryce seized the opportunity and snatched the spoon out of her hands. He retaliated to her act of war by staining her mouth with the same substance his cheeks were covered in. She shrieked in horror and playfully punched his chest, dissolving into giggles yet again.
His heart fluttered when her laughter reached his ears and his gaze fell upon her lips, suddenly very eager to kiss her. Conflicted feelings arose in him, unsure of whether or not to act on his urges, knowing that once he did it, there was no going back.
But when she stared up at him with those wide, sparkling eyes and the most beautiful smile he had ever seen, logic crumbled under his impulses, and before any of them could process what was happening, Sunny Soo was in his arms with her lips locked with his in a kiss they had both only dreamed about before that moment.
His hands had gripped her waist tightly to keep her safe and steady against his larger body. She mustered the little physical power left inside her to stand up on her toes to relief the uncomfort from her craned neck.
And then, she muttered four seemingly harmless words against his lips that snapped him back to the harsh clutches of cold, hard reality.
"I love you, Bryce."
At that point, Bryce didn't know what to do anymore.
When they pulled apart, faces barely inches away from each other and breathing heavily, his heart broke at the hope sparkling in the gorgeous brown eyes he had fell in love with.
"Oh God..." The devastated whisper left his lips before he could process it. Sunny frowned, the light in her expression dimming by the second. Oh God? What was that supposed to mean? Was he... disgusted by her? Did he... not love her?
"Bryce?" Her cheeks were still burning, but her eyes had begun to glaze over with a thin coat of tears. The sound of her voice breaking damn near shattered his weakening resolve.
Words fumbled around in his brain in a confused mess. He stammered unintelligibly, eyes wide and breath quickening. He was panicked. For the first time in a damn long time, Bryce Lahela was speechless - clueless.
"I - I'm - I shouldn't have done that. I should not have done that."
Was he convincing her, or himself?
"What - What's that supposed to mean?" Her voice was growing weaker by the second. She took small, subtle steps away from him, beginning to feel smaller than she already was. Suddenly, they were both hyper-aware of the violence of the rain pattering against the window and the ground outside, mimicking the loud thumping of their rabid hearts.
"I... We can't. I don't... You deserve better. You deserve better." Sunny watched in surprise as he repeated those last three words in a hushed tone, as if attempting to assure himself. He ran his fingers through his hair, ultimately messing it up.
"I deserve better?" She laughed incredulously. "Bryce, I've spent the last few months convincing myself that I didn't even deserve to have you in my life, let alone love you."
"Are you - Are you fucking serious?" He rubbed his face with his hands and aggressively chewed on his bottom lip. God, I really messed up, he thought. "You're the most incredible person I've ever met. I'd move mountains for you - God knows I've tried."
He said the last sentence in a whisper, barely loud enough for her to catch - he didn't mean her to, really. Her eyes softened, but were still stained with the bitter pain of heartbreak.
"Bryce, please."
Pathetic, she felt. She was standing in her own kitchen, asking to be loved. How humiliating. The mortification overwhelmed her and pushed a steady flow of salty tears to run down her frowning face. She hugged herself in an attempt to feel less exposed under his watchful gaze.
Silence washed over them. He was racking his brain for ways to soften the blow to her, but part of him knew nothing could make the rejection she would face any easier. But this was for her own good, right? She was away from his buried feelings, away from the toxicity of his past, away from his unwanted trust issues. Sunny deserved someone who would grant her full, raw honesty and a stable relationship, because he could never give them to her.
"I can't. I can't do this, I'm sorry." His throat was constricted and strained the tone of his voice. She shut her eyelids as the words she was waiting for finally broke the silence that suffocated them and tested their diminishing patience. Despite her closed eyes, her cheeks were covered with a new coat of tears and her bottom lip trembled. She sucked it into the grasp of her teeth to try to keep it steady and hide how much his rejection truly affected her.
"Can you at least tell me if you felt anything at all?" mumbled Sunny weakly. "Is it just your insecurity holding you back, or do you really not love me?"
Nothing could prepare her or him for his answer. Bryce took a deep, shaky breath, mulling over whether or not he should tell the biggest lie he'd ever utter or yell the truth at the top of his lungs. Sadly, in the end, he knew better than to give her false hope for what never will, and did the only thing he knew would ensure he would never hurt her after that devastating moment.
- Bryce is a damn good kisser and obviously surprisingly so. You were so shocked by how good he was when you had your first kiss that you genuinely forgot he was a lanky teenager and not a skilled, mysterious, tall, dark and handsome man from a romance novel.
- He holds you by your waist and basically only by your waist because heâs a âgentlemanâ. Itâs actually really refreshing because most guys just try to grope you when you kiss.
- He knows exactly how to take your breath away and never hesitates to do so. His thought process is if you love the way he kisses you the higher the chance is that youâll stick around even if you think heâs a total loser.
- He has really soft lips that feel amazing against yours.
- Heâs usually pretty soft and slow; he wants to take his time with you and enjoy the feeling of your lips on his.
- He loves feeling your hand on his cheek when heâs kissing you. Feeling the warmth of your palm never fails to make his heart skip a beat.
- Whenever you kiss it feels like time stops and the two of you are very capable of being able to kiss for hours. You always have to make sure you lock your door so no one barges in on you two in case you lose track of time.
- You tend to grasp his button ups when you kiss him. He finds it kind of cute whenever he feels your fingers clutch the fabric.
- Heâll use just the right amount of tongue; not too much where his tongues down your throat and not too little where it feels like heâs just licking your lips. Just enough that you always want a bit more.
- Heâll never admit it but heâs definitely studied the way people kiss in movies or in public to get his âtechniquesâ.
- He loves being able to make you breathless; whenever you pull away from him panting he can feel himself getting flustered.
- Heâll place soft kisses on your lips, forehead and cheeks whenever youâre catching your breath after things got intense between you two.
- You canât help but find his soft groans attractive; he always seems to be thoroughly enjoying himself when youâre kissing and itâs pretty hot knowing that you can elicit that reaction from him.
- He absolutely loves when you pull him on top of you and between your legs when youâre kissing. Usually it happens when youâre laying in bed and lazily kissing each other; one thing will lead to another and youâll just want him closer than he already is.
- He gets slightly embarrassed whenever you move to take off his shirt but he loves the feeling of your hands roaming his body.
- He may be a damn good kisser but heâs always surprised when you lead him down to your lips yourself especially when youâre in public.
- Leading his hand down to your chest when you want to take things to the next level. You can feel his kisses get much quicker and passionate as he touches you.
- Studying together never seems to work out because all of a sudden heâll look at you and feel a sudden urge to kiss you. One thing will lead to another and all of a sudden you canât even think about school.
