Steve grins as he sips his coffee, content to look at Bucky while he took in the skyline, “We really did take out lives into our hands in those back alley fights. The number of times you saved me while I was getting my ass kicked to this day has got to be close to triple digits. I never could walk away from a bully,” he chuckles, looking down into his mug for a long moment.
“I know..I mean of course I know how awful things were for…after the train. But at the end of the day, I’m glad you’re here with me,” Steve says softly, knowing that even if it wasn’t enough to make up for everything that happened, he wanted Bucky to know how much he appreciated having him here.
“Even if it’s just so that I’m not the oldest man in New York,” he smirks as he sets his mug down on the table to go get a bagel.
"I knew there was a reason that you kept me around, just know this I'm going to be throwing old man joke at you for as long as we're both alive." Bucky laughs and gives Steve a real smile, which he doesn't give to anyone but him now. Steve has been his friend for a long time and knows what makes him tick. He wouldn't have it any other way either
He shakes his head"You don't know either and I hope you never do because for you to know what it was like after that fall you would have had to have gone through it yourself. That's not something that I would wish on my worst enemy much less my best friend. The only things you know about are the things they put on paper, I was the one doing it all and it's taken it's toll."
"I know believe me I know and just like always you feel like you have to save the world from all those bullies and bad guys only now the bullies are armed with futuristic weaponry and some of them come from space. How do you get yourself into these messes Punk."
