That would be a long time from now! So basically.

I have to consistently breed my breed for 5 years minimum. The birds must breed true meaning they produce chicks that consistently share the same traits.

My birds must possess unique characteristics that will set it apart from other breeds

I must write a Standard Of Perfection and submit it for review to the APA. I must also write a breed history and advocate for my breed as to why it should be recognized.

At least 4 other breeders have to have bred my birds for at least 5 years consistently while being part of the APA, following the proposed standard of perfection.

I have to show 4 hens, 4 roosters, 4 cockerels, and 4 pullets at least twice each year

After meeting the show requirements, we must host a qualifying meet at one of the big shows. At this meet, at least four breeders must enter a minimum of 50 birds, there will be a second meet with that required number as well.

If we do all that and the judges agree those 50 birds follow the standard multiple times then typically the breed starts to be recognized.

This will take many many years :)

Realised you guys haven’t met Mocha - Truffle’s future girlfriend! She’s a gorgeous visual Sable and other than being hissy and preferring to be drop fed she’s a delight. She comes out often and likes looking out the window at the garden. I love seeing those dark tones develop and watching her grow up. She’s pretty small despite her age..my other girl Luna is bigger than her and she’s 2 months younger. I think Mocha was given a maintenance diet rather than for growth before she came to me. Either way, she’s putting on some size now and looking great 🤎

I don't usually do breeding projects so idk if it's worth it. But this combo is super rare (only two dragons with it on site, both from inactive accounts), and....I want...

I YEARN for them

So, I've never done a long breeding project before, longest I've ever really done is just buying two dragons and breeding them, nothing that really requires more than that.

I wasn't ever really planning on doing one, either, but I really want something too specific to wait for the AH, and I don't want to spend a ton of money on genes if I can really avoid it, since I have a lot of gene projects on my plate.

This is my goal dragon.

She's based on my Elden Ring character turned general kinda OC, Anastacia.

I thought getting something like this exactly would be much easier than it was..... uhhh I was wrong. I checked hatcheries, and stalked the Auction House for a few days, and didn't find much in dragon search that I thought I ould be able to get.

So, what's the goal?

I want a female Skydancer with maize Iridescent, goldenrod Lode, and Runes somewhere around the Flaxen ballpark, so that doesn't have to be exact. I'm going to want Wind eyes for her, I think, so I will have to rent a nest for my final pair.

So, I've bought an initial stockpile of dragons to begin my journey.

This is Golden, a female Skydancer

White | Crystal Gold | Clouded Buttercup | Runes

I figure she'll be a good starting point, but at the time of writing she's only 14 hours old, so I have to wait for her to grow up and for her cooldown to end. Gives me plenty of time to plan.

This is Talfryn, and she's hopefully going to help me get some of the genes I want into the lineage. I know that some of the others have treasure genes and she's all gem gene, but I think I have some plans to work around it.

At the time of writing, she is a year old, but has a breeding cooldwon. She has a pretty impressive offspring list, as well.

This is Elden, who will hopefully be able to pass on his color scheme and Runes into the lineage. He is also 14 hours old at the time of writing.

Antique | Crystal Buttercup | Clouded Gold | Runes

He and Golden are related, but I think I'll have enough toom to make sure that this shouldn't cause me any problems, as I intend to get more dragons for the project as needed.

This is Peaches, and he's here purely for the colors.

It's not exactly what I am wanting, but he's close enough in range to be able to be useful, I think. He's two weeks old, so he isn't ready to breed quite yet.

And this is Order. He's also here for his color range.

Now, I know this is pobably not quite enough for the dragon I want, but I am going to be treating this endeavor as a learning experience. I have a couple other dragons who can chip in who can help with the range and a couple genes, but I dont want to have to include those, since they're more black and gold.
