The former chief of police of the Seattle P.D. has recently admitted that he ordered his officers to gas ânon violent, non-threatening protesters.â In his book, âBreaking Rankâ, Norm Stamper explains how his officers dressed in âmilitary garb, carrying military weaponsâ engaged in âaggressive military actions against non-violent protesters.â He now says that this was the worst mistake of his career. This is just one example of how police action in the United States has become increasingly militarised over the last 20 years or so.
