As you might know, I am a part time Internet
Hello webizens! I’m Violet, and today (and at certain unknown points in the future) we’re going to be taking a look at Undertale together. What is Undertale? It’s a game that came out, I dunno, the other month or so. It got a lot of positive press at the time because there’d been a demo some time ago that I’d never heard of, so I looked at some screenshots and they looked really bad. But then I read an extremely positive article about the game, so I downloaded the demo. It was really bad too! Then everyone started being in love with Undertale 24/7 and it won GameFAQs and got talked about on The Mary Sue and stuff. And into this commotion I now rewade--I had a brief debate about the game a while back on the MS Paint Adventure forums, and then recently one of my existing internet friends(!) managed to find that thread and recognize my username(!!) and, following some discussion, gifted me(!!!) the game on Steam. And that brings us to the present day.
So what this is is a liveblog, where I play/read/whatever some Undertale and chronicle my experience, probably in conjunction with some number of screenshots! I read a large number--possibly too large a number--of Homestuck liveblogs, and those always looked like great fun, but unfortunately I have already read Homestuck. But this is apparently Homestuck-adjacent--the author works on HS’s music team or something--so maybe it will make me feel like a proper part of the internet after all. I guess there’s only one way to find out?
But first: DISCLAIMERS! ;D As I said, I played the Undertale demo! (Although my internet friend assures me that just because something is undeniably labeled “Undertale Demo” does not mean it is, in fact, a demo of Undertale.) That means I have a general recollection of how the first part of the game goes, through your escaping the goatmom house and meeting the flower a second time. But there may have been changes made to the game since the demo that I don’t know about.
(And, obviously, that I don’t want to know about. Don’t tell me things I don’t know already! That would be rather against the point.)
Besides that, I am given to understand (through general cultural osmosis) that Undertale contains a pair of skeletons named Sans and Papyrus, after the fonts, and it has been hinted that their personalities may in some way relate to those fonts. Presumably this means that Papyrus is a Browncoat? I guess I’ll have to find out. I have a vague recollection of there maybe being someone with a skateboard, and someone who’s on fire, and they’re either the same person or in a relationship. Or maybe fans think that they should be. Or maybe I’m completely misremembering that whole thing. Also there are various kinds of “runs” and possibly I think I’ll just be winging that part of things, unless the game comes with some sort of very explicit instruction manual telling me not to.
The liveblog proper shall begin next post, but disclaimers felt like an important thing to talk about. Until next time... until next time.
