đ @nursericha_ NURSE BURNOUT: symptoms to look out for Nurse burnout or compassion fatigue is such a real thing. All nursing students or nurses are susceptible to it. Burnout in turn can lead to more serious problems & itâs good to catch this early on so you can prevent any further issues. Especially now that weâve been in a pandemic for over a year, weâre much more likely to burnout due to the social distress, anxiety and much more that this pandemic has brought into our lives. Here is some symptoms that you must catch to identify if youâre burning out & that now, itâs time for a break! đŠšexhaustion & fatigue: do you ever feel like youâre working the same as before but youâre always tired now? Even 8 hours of sleep isnât helping? Youâre dreading another 12-hour shift cause you donât think your body can take it? These are some signs of chronic fatigue or exhaustion that you must notice. As nurses, weâre not only doing longer shifts, but weâre also alternating between days & nights, sometimes evenings. Studies have shown that longer shifts can cause nurses to be more worn out & result in patient dissatisfaction! đŠšcompassion fatigue: nursing is not only physically and mentally demanding, but also emotionally. Compassion is a crucial element of nursing & especially during the pandemic where so many of patients canât see their families, compassion and caring are needed the most. If youâve begun to feel like you just donât have the energy to engage in conversations anymore, are irritable, and just feel like you donât like your job anymore- you might be experiencing compassion fatigue. If you believe that youâre losing compassion towards your patients, it is important for you to take a break! đŠšlosing the passion: do you feel like youâre losing the passion towards learning more and/or youâre getting too comfortable at your workplace and donât want to grab new opportunities anymore?
