New grad diaries
Iāll admit I havenāt graduated yet, the definitive ranks and grades will be in next week if everything goes well (and it might not go well, the administration already failed once at it). But it doesnāt matter.
It doesnāt matter because Iām done, I know Iām graduating, I earned the right to prescribe right now the only thing thatās left is for the website to publish the results.
That being said Iām now in limbo, Iām not a student anymore but Iām not a resident yet either. And after getting back from my first vacation since October everything now feels weird. Especially since I started working again.
My current position is Ā«Ā standing in as a residentĀ Ā» nicknamed Ā«Ā baby residentĀ Ā» by the actual residents. Itās another limbo, donāt get me wrong I really like it but itās a very big change to adapt to. Suddenly I have a student and Iām supposed to teach stuff to her, I was the student less than three months ago. Suddenly nurses come to me with a problem and they expect a solution. Suddenly Iām the one talking with families and other colleagues to make a treatment plan. Like what ? Oh and Iām controlling the prescriptions, I did an epilepsy treatment switch this week. Itās unreal.
So yeah graduating, itās even scarier than finals week.
When youāre a resident getting yelled at by another team or patient about a decision your attending made, that you have to go explain
