This shouldn’t be called Love Island. It should be called “Chat Island.” That’s all that happens. You talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk some more. Shut up!
How to edit characters (that already existed in your first draft
Maybe your character was too dull or too passive or maybe they’re just hella inconsistant. Anyhow, several of my characters fit all of the above in my first draft, but now they’re so much better, so here are some tips.
1) What are they SUPPOSED to be? What was your intention for the character when you started writing them? This is especially helpful when fixing inconsistant charactarization. Ignore situations where they have to act out of character to get the plot to work (I’ll get to that later). If that wasn’t an issue, what would this character be like? This is going to be like a compass - in each scene, they’re either going to act like this, or you can directly point to something they’re reacting to that would cause them to act different.
2) Create a character profile for them about their personality, strengths, weaknesses, goals, and motivations. Unless they’re visually inconsistant, you don’t need to worry about what they look like beyond the absolute basics (physical ability and/or race being things that likely impact their life in some way). For a guide on how I make character profiles, you can check out this post (imbedded). It’s pretty simple, and you can make some dynamic characters out of it.
(How to implement this information below the cut)
Here are my thoughts on the people in Love Island the Game: Series 4.
Girls:
Lexi is Hope lite. She is a condescending catty bitch. Insecure slag.
Thabi is a little mouse. Girl, are you on the right show? She is a shadow in the house.
Angie. Umm… bland, uninspired, uninteresting, just empty space.
Najumba is room temperature water.
MC. Why does she look like the little kids in season 3? Don’t like it.
Boys:
Will is too try hard. Hate his tattoos. It’s like Harry Styles, Adam Levine, MGK, or Pete Davidson levels of nonsense tattoos. Eye roll.
James. Okay. I am getting sick and tired of these meek little men. It’s been done to DEATH. I’ve had it. Officially.
Hazeem. Why does he look like a movie villain? Personality: melted vanilla ice cream. Soup.
Kobi is meh. He is a doormat. Doesn’t make your panties drop? Holy shit.
Oh, boy. The characters are hollow. Dead behind the eyes. I’ll give it another week before I drop playing Love Island forever. I have reached my limit.
6 questions to transform a boring character in your novel or screenplay
On a podcast recently, scriptwriter Moira Buffini was asked this question. What do you do if a character is boring? ‘Cut them out,’ said Moira. I don’t necessarily agree. Sometimes cutting a character is the right decision. If the narrative is too crowded. Or your brain is. And all writers need to be bold about killing our darlings, whether they’re characters or plot turns or descriptions or…

Re-watching a SPN episode and I forgot how much I find Jody Mills boring 😒
I never understood why she is so popular in the fandom. Same for Kaia (fortunately we don't see her very much). Both insipid characters in my opinion. The good point is now that I know the story, I can pass through her scenes 😏
ahs10 ep3: well that sucked
I may be the only one who liked ep 1 and 2 because i’m a bitch for murder house, it seemed self aware, and paris jackson is hot.
but this episode... what the fuck?
okey, finished legends of korra and i saw korrasami EVERYWHERE on tumblr and in the show... it doesn't exist??? they stole one boring boy from each other way to many times for it to be interesting but remained friendly and in the end decided to go on vacations to spirit world togheter (in my opinion holding hands doesn't mean fricking anything, especially becaus hugging and touching liked ones is very common and normal in lok). Mind you, i don' t know what happend outside the show and frankly i don't give a heck, but it's not even subtext. It's nothing!
btw i hoped it would happen so i'm really disapointed in fandom blowing things out of proportions again. Mostly in saying that it is on the same level as shera or the owl house.
