As 2014 draws to a close, we are looking back on some of the projects we have worked on this year.
During April 2014, the final artwork for the Shilling Ground was installed. Pidgin Perfect were asked by Glasgow Housing Association to develop an artistic response to the Shilling Ground, a public space in Pollokshaws, Glasgow.
Originally used for winnowing - sorting the wheat from the chaff- The Shilling Ground is a key location in the changing community of Pollakshaws, as it reminds residents of their historical context during a time of regeneration. The project was very much a response to built and remembered heritage.
During May, Pidgin Perfect collaborated with African film researcher, Natalia Polombo, in Cape Town. An ongoing project, which investigates the Power of Film to express creativity across Dance, Music, Theatre, Photography and Design, as part of 'World Design Capital 2014.'
Pidgin Perfect were commissioned by Future City Glasgow to deliver a wide ranging digital literacy engagement programme, from June-September 2014, exploring the city through the eyes of enterprises, communities and individuals.
Futures Maps was a people-focused project. Using a toolkit of applications, both analogue and digital, citizens and groups mapped their communities, services and environments; the way in which they use the city.
Over the course of the three months, we worked with 32 organisations charities, social enterprises, schools and community groups. There were 338 citizen mappers in total, engaging with 9 mapping tools over the course of 30 mapping sessions.
As part of the #LivingWindow project, six green spaces within the Cumbernauld Living Landscape were chosen to be celebrated in contemporary artworks created by three young artists in Scotland.
Emily Shepherd's artwork, featured here, created something out of the ordinary, and was placed within a shopping centre. It captured the imagination and transported shoppers to another place.
Since January 2014, Pidgin Perfect have been working to enhance the visual and pedestrian experience connecting London Road, Glasgow Green and the Barras Calton through PULSE; a series of temporary and permanent artworks situated along London Road.
Featured is Jacqueline Donachie's 'Slow Down.' The sculptural steel elements of ‘Slow Down’ explore key themes in Donachie’s practice around the ideas of communication, participation and how civic spaces are designed, managed and used.
Following the success of last year’s library reading murals we teamed up with @ScottishBkTrust again to transform some more Scottish libraries! From November 24th-28th we travelled the breadth of Scotland, launching five new artworks for libraries; starting at Stockbridge and ending in Shetland.
Each artwork took inspiration from the poem, 'Dear Library' by Jackie Kay, specially commissioned by Scottish Book Trust for Book Week Scotland 2014. The piece explores the inner world of the library through different eyes and different generations.
Featured in 'Under the Shy Moon' by Rachel Barron at Stockbridge Library, Edinburgh. The artwork was inspired by the poem; in particular the narrative of an expectant mother and the phases of an expectant mother and the phases we embark on throughout a life's journey.
