I've had this idea of making some watercolours. Sometimes work has a rise and fall. In one's mind there is this huge expectation, one has a vision of possibility, the latent potential of something magnificent. The drawing begins to offer promise, the rise in expectation. I used the drawing as a template for my screen positives. The watercolour gets grubby, around the edges. I start to make some marks which offer more potential the first touches of watercolour bringing the paper to life. More touches and the expectation grows, but soon it seems that I've added too much, the colour too bright, the layers too much.i start another which is even more dead than the first. That initial spark, that frisson of excitement seems to have gone out. I need to do more to work through this sense of failure but the dead thing in front of me acts like a sorry reminder that ideas in your head are never fully realised. Better to be surprised, to discover that image and accept that it doesn't always work even if one wants it to. #watercolour #bodycolour #mixedmedia #contemporaryrealism #contemporaryportraiture #portraitpainting#figurativepainting #portraiture #britishart #kunst #representationalart #representationalpainting #drawing #contemporarywatercolour @fineartprintmaking_uob @printmaking.exhibition_2ndyear @uniofbrighton @brightonalumni https://www.instagram.com/p/CRW1Y0kreFY/?utm_medium=tumblr
