From • @dailydavidbyrnedances David Byrne's 70th birthday is on Saturday (May 14th) and I encourage everyone to participate in setting this iconic DB photo as your profile picture for his birthday! It'll only take a minute, and I've included it on the second slide and in my story so you can screenshot+crop, or you can DM me and I can send the photo to you! (By the way, my account is still on a break, but I'll be back with new David Byrne dancing videos later this month!) Some context for the photo: In recent years, this has become one of the most iconic photos of David Byrne - him holding a bowl of Cornflakes cereal during a promo photoshoot by Bobby Grossman in 1979 (other people also featured include Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry, and David Johansen) Over the past couple of years, I've seen a LOT of people on different social media using it as a profile picture (including myself), and a few months ago I had the idea that it would be perfect for the community of Talking Heads / David Byrne fans to come together and show a collective appreciation for David on his birthday! Hopefully if you've read to here, I've convinced you to participate (but of course it's your choice) Now, please help spread the word to everybody else you know! At time of posting, David's birthday is tomorrow (I intended to post this on Thursday but forgot), so it might be easier for you to change your pfp as soon as you see this post instead of waiting for Saturday! . . #davidbyrne #talkingheads #talkingheadsband #cornflakes #bobbygrossman #americanutopia #stopmakingsense https://www.instagram.com/p/CdiEkbgOrEjB7qnAu8bHa0erFPdglBhGbkDlMM0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
A book of 1970's New York photos featuring Blondie, Ramones, Talking Heads, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Andy Warhol and more!
Check out this Kickstarter!!!
Bobby Grossman was a kid bopping around the original CBGB/Lower East Side scene in the mid-70s, camera in hand, went on to work at Andy Warhol’s “Interview” magazine, and generally grooved along with NYC art/noise history since. You’ll still see him around gallery openings and such these days.
Bobby Grossman, late ‘70s
He’s a great guy, and has an insane treasure trove of amazing images, and recollections from his famed friends, that he’s compiling into an incredible book project. Check out his Kickstarter, and see if you’re interested enough to contribute something, since this book will be a defining one on that deep late ‘70s/early ‘80s NYC well of inspiration.

Grossman w/ Iggy Pop
If you’re in the NYC area, there is a stellar exhibition of his work at Howl’s HA/HA gallery on the Bowery, until May 29. See it!!
Here’s a current interview with the man, with some great pix from the April 16, 2022 opening of the exhibit.
And another interesting one with LOADS of his photos, from 2012.
