I don’t have experience working as part of a guide dog team, but I do have my white cane training. I know using a spirit for this sort of task lacks the benefit of a tangible, physical obstacle between me and other people and various hazards. But it also comes with the benefit that my familiar can communicate with me a little more directly than a dog could. I’ve had him lead me to things or help me when I’ve been lost before, so it seems worth a try. It wouldn’t be all the time either since my wife usually acts as my sighted guide. But I have some travel coming up where I’d be alone and I think maybe this could be a solution for that. On the other hand, it could be a potentially dangerous experimentation, but I think using both his guidance and my white cane together should make it reasonably safe.
