Walking into camp alone can be really overwhelming. When I first arrived at Blue Lake it was a lot to take in. The moment our blue mini van rounded the corner to the big gravel driveway my heart raced. People were walking all over the place carrying suitcases and instruments. Some were reuniting with old friends in warm hugs while their parents rushed them along to their cabins. It was a big vision for my anxiety ridden self to take in. Flash forward 12 days, I was the last one in my cabin, waiting for my parents to pick me up and sign me out. My cabin counselor was playing music and a song came on that I loved, I heard the chords ringing through my ears and I sung out loud. My parents walked in at that moment and my counselor turns to them and says, “She had a great time, she really came out of her shell.” and that made me smile all the way home. The bottom line is just be yourself at blue lake and talk to people. When you get into your cabin say hi to your cabin mates, they will become your best friends. When you get put into your auditioned group, get to know your section and your group. Talk to people even if small talk is not your strong point. My first time at camp I literally turned to someone and said “It’s so hot.” and they responded and we became best friends.

The point I am trying to make is to come out of your comfort zone and just live in the moment at camp.
