Blackspire, named for the turret of its most central keep standing five kilometres high, casting a kilometre-wide shadow across the surrounding walls is situated at the terminus of a long upward-winding mountain road overlooking the vast valley below. Its position incredibly strong defensively has meant that it is one of the most difficult castles in the North to breach requiring a vast mountain trek before you even reach its first defences Below, a dock stretches like an outward reaching arm into the icy depths of Long Lake where fishermen from the nearby villages sailed their boats seeking the days catch. The Lake, situated in a mountainous valley and bordering the Wolfswood serves as the start of the main river known as the White Knife which leads down to Winterfell and on to White Harbour. The stone edifice of this looming castle presents a somewhat foreboding aspect to the world, for there was nothing about it to suggest warmth or any other potential qualities that might assure a wanderer of welcome.
Instead, the vast stone fortress exudes an austerity, cold and repellent, a hint of ancient mysteries long since buried within its towering walls and turrets. Yet, its inhabitants - the descendents of an ancient family as noble and loyal a house as any other found in the North, sworn to House Stark, are known to welcome almost any seeking shelter through its portcullis and into the town attached. The current residents are Lord Alistair and his wife Emilia Savin (formerly of House Manderly) their eldest and heir to the family legacy: Stefan Savin widower to Eddara Tallheart along with their infant son and the youngest: Erich Savin a steward to House Umber.
The castle backs onto the vast pines of the Wolfswood where its inhabitants range and forage, at its heart stands a Godswood as grand as any rivalling many major houses. Blackspire has wings and ramparts and thin slit windows from which to shoot arrows, there are courtyards, crypts, hidden doors, secret passages and, carved into the bowels of the solid rock upon which it stands, a dungeon. Blackspire houses less finery than anything South of the Neck though it does possess sculptures, tapestries, paintings, carpets and carvings.
