The longer I keep these DoilyHoop Witch Wreaths around the more I fiddle with them. Especially now since today is my second day post “traditional workforce” (really I think I’m just returning to an older tradition of artisan work). I am nervous but hopeful, and I am curious what will come my way in the coming months. Working on the small details of mostly finished pieces keeps my hands busy and my mind centered in the meantime. This one was embellished with a pendulum I purchased from my local metaphysical store (made by a friend of the owner) for this purpose, and beads I have had in my crafting collection for years (the silver rose bead in particular I have had since childhood - and I got it secondhand so maybe it is even a vintage bead at this point 🤔)... I am debating between listing them in my Etsy or taking them down to my local metaphysical shop as they have displayed my work before. What do you think? I have stayed silent on so many things on social media, wafting between feeling that I don’t owe the internet my opinions on everything and a fear that being authentically vocal could draw unwanted attention. Small “DoilyHoop” wall art. Today I am feeling a lot of feels. Most of them anger and frustration. I can’t think of anything more American than protecting your family, friends, and community. So when people complain that it impedes on their American rights to be told to wear a mask, I am completely baffled. All you have to do to protect yourself and everyone around you is wear a piece of fabric on your face and you won’t do that? We are in an early apocalypse scenario but since it doesn’t involve you running around like Rambo, you don’t like it. Is you not wearing a piece of fabric over your face for a couple hours worth someone dying? Think about someone other than yourself. Grow up. I thought I could live life online just sharing my art. But that isn’t the whole picture, it isn’t my story, and it isn’t authentic to me. I am a ranter and someone who believes in taking care of each other. In respecting others and loving people. I am not perfect at it, most days I kinda suck at it. But I strive to do better by my friends, family, and community. And right now the way I mostly do that is by wearing a mask 8+ hours a day to protect myself, my coworkers, and the people we serve. At worst, if masks don’t work very well, I haven’t harmed anyone and have learned my endurance for being mildly uncomfortable. At best, where experts are correct and masks greatly reduce the spread of COVID-19, than I have done my part to keep people safe.
