Trust wasn’t something given with ease, it was earned and even then there were very few on his list. Hawks was one of them, slowly climbing up the ranks the more they found each other seeking out company. The countless times he’s slept in that apartment, to put himself in such a vulnerable state was something now done with no hesitation. They seemed to find each other more often than the league did.
Those words scrolled messily across paper had changed all that, confusion settling deep in his bones at the confessions written in ink. It had thoughts twisting, everything they had being questioned over and over again. Being close, this close with someone who had such strong feelings had never crossed his mind. That something more than friendship lingered.
Of course, he decided to brush everything off, to leave the apartment he found himself standing in to be alone with raging thoughts. Until he was being pinned, so much raw emotion flashing be hide those golden eyes that shined like the sun. Like he wanted nothing more than to try and explain himself. To cut the tension lingering so heavy in the air between them.
The reek of alcohol, the familiar scent of whiskey had his nose scrunching in disgust has it filled the air between them. The temptation was strong, to push the paranoid bird away, right now he was to close for comfort.
This shouldn’t be a surprise.
Not when he was welcomed into an apartment any time of day, the way conversations could go on for hours even when it was a topic that was quickly forgotten later. When they felt completely relaxed in each other's presence like they had countless times before. The way those golden hues lit up, it had been obvious. So why did it now click?
Maybe Dabi just couldn’t wrap his head around someone liking a monster like himself.
❝I’m not mad, I just wasn’t expecting it.❞
Taking in the bird in a new light, the denial wasn’t there he knew that he found this one attractive. Those sharp, bright features that he held and those wings like a crimson cloud his fingers craved to rake through. But, it was something he never planned to act on. Getting close to someone, when his life could end the next day was dangerous. Almost not worth it. The pain wasn't worth it.
❝How long?❞
A scarred hand reached out, tilting up a chin ever so slightly too catch those eyes that seemed to do nothing but wonder.
❝How long have you been hiding it?❞
