Would a traditional backpack make sense for someone that can swap from bipedal to quadped motion? I get the feeling that something like books or just heavy stuff in general might hinder motion if a character is trying to, example, run up on all fours to catch the bus.
I feel like you mostly see saddlebags on animals with cargo but then camels seem to do fine with stuff on top of their back so??
I think it would work best if it was a backpack with a strap around the torso, kinda like the ones used for backpacking trips! when you're hiking with a big pack, you may have to enter a crawling position to get over certain obstacles, but those packs are built to stay in place and well balanced while you're active! Keeping a strap around the torso would help a bi/quad person switch things up without worrying about having their pack slide around too much.
(image description: sketch of a cat person standing and then moving on all fours. They are wearing a backpack that's strapped on over the shoulders and around their waist. end description)
the exact placement of the torso strap may vary based on body shape, this is not a perfect sketch lol. definitely go look up photos of people backpacking with different sized packs for better reference!
