You can always tell when a #mancold is really kicking Maverick's butt. He embraces his #CPAP with little resistance. When we were first planning discharge from the #NICU and were told we would need nursing support I had a mini tantrum. 215 days in the and I wasn't going to be able to leave the medical equipment and support behind. We it really so much to ask that Maverick get a room that somewhat resembled a nursery? In our case yes. Statistically babies born on at 24 weeks have a 50/50 chance of survival. The list of potential complications is overwhelming. As a parent of a surviving micropreemie you are beyond grateful because you're time in the NICU has been a brutal reminder that not everyone gets to take their child home alive, or perhaps like us you've lost a child or even two children. You know you're lucky, you count your blessings but you still have days of feeling ripped off of a "normal" experience. Being a parent is hard and so many of us rely on the support of fellow parents to feel like you're not alone. Now I know I am not the only mom of a micropreemie sho is gtube dependent and requires CPAP when sleeping. I also know I am not the only parent who has lost a child or in our case to children....but before I became Maverick's mom I certainly didn't know any families like ours. They definitely weren't on my radar to seek out. Now that we are home I dont physically know anyone going through these struggles. In fact Maverick is the only baby on CPAP in our community. I never imagined I would be so grateful for social media giving me the tools to find families of a similar journey to share the ups and downs.
