in your opinion how are you able to tell if you split vs simple dissociation and hoe tell if this person is apart of a subsys or not?
It'd be different for everyone, but for us:
Splitting often comes with a "before" feeling. You start dissociating more, and you start feeling "wrong". Not really bad, just a weird off feeling, like being out of place. Eventually, the split forms a sense of identity separate from just the "who am I? where am I?" feelings dissociation comes with.
Dissociation is a state, and not a separate person. Hard to tell while you're in it because by nature, it makes you often feel disconnected from your body or surroundings. But it tends to not come with an added on identity forming out of it.
To tell the difference, honestly we go through our system list and see if we fit the "vibe" of anyone. If not, we generally assume we're likely a new split and go from there with our usual process for that.
We have generally low-ish amnesia barriers between us though, so this might not work at all for others. Splitting vs dissociation might feel really different for others as well. (And one of my headmates might come in later and go "actually sometimes it's like [completely different feeling]" too, because we sometimes experience stuff differently even amongst ourselves.)
As for telling if you're part of a subsystem or not... Honestly, for us the process is basically the same as figuring out you're plural in the first place. If you work differently than that, we don't have experience with what you're dealing with so we can't offer advice.
Others are free to add on with their own experiences and ideas though, because these things can be so, so varied and it'd probably help to learn of some different perspectives.
desirdae culture is knowing that most wont take ur identity seriously and how important it actually is
Desirdae culture is...
Here are some separation resources I was given I hope it helps :3

ahh tysm!!!
quick question, im trying to figure out if im a subsys how were u able to tell from subsys and outside headmates? /genq /nf
Ah! Ok so we have a few subsystems and it’s been slightly different for each so I’ll just say them all and hope they help
Tl;dr: a group of alters with lower barriers with eachother compared to alters outside
1: it started with 1 alter who was dubbed the “subsystem host” and went through consistent trauma with frequent amnesiac blackouts. It was very hard for him to notice since nobody else wanted to be known. Their experience I’d describe as the same as your average system realization and they act similarly to the way a system does while being unable to communicate with anyone outside the subsystem and extremely high amnesia barriers. They are mostly similar in source and trauma due to this.
2. A group of alters who had a very hard time telling the difference inbetween eachother because amnesiac barriers were low enough to blend alters well despite having distinct different emotions and preferences. They have no similarities outside of lower barriers, theyre more akin to a friend group than anything
3. A group of fragmented alters who have such small roles they don’t really function outside of being a subsystem. They all hold a specific emotion to one facet of trauma. Despite having average amnesiac barriers, they all serve the same purpose, and prefer being referred to as facets of one identity.
There’s a lot of ways subsystems form and act, and it definitely isn’t just the stereotype of “one alter who is a system themself” lol. I’d say if you can communicate with the alters you think might be in your subsystem, or let them find their own identities in time.

Is it okay if I ask how you make flags and choose colors / symbols etc. and name your flags/terms Whenever im making a flag i dont know what colors I should pick or the color scheme or what symbols to use, or how to make into a “word” if that makes sense /nf /genq /pos
I'm not the best at explaining, but I'll try my best-
For colors, a lot of it is word / color associations, for example, I associate moles with the colors brown, black, grey, cream, green, and grey. Color picking from pictures and palettes also helps a lot, plus I have used colorspace some in the past.
For symbols, I mostly use ones from thenounproject, which are free to use with credit, though if I can't find something I like on there, I honestly just google "(x) png transparent" and look in images until I find something I do like. I do draw them sometimes, but not usually. If I can't find something even after all that and don't want to draw, I will use adjacent icons, such as using a normal musroom symbol for truffles since I didn't like how the truffle pngs I found looked, or for an upcoming term how I couldn't find a piglin symbol, so I used the alchemical symbol for gold
For naming it really depends- for example, a lot of role system terms have an affix already given, so I just combine that with the main subject of the term, for example sleevessel literally being a combo of slee- + vessel, though sometimes I shorten things, such as sisterquintghoul being sister- + (quint)essence + nameless (ghoul). Plus, sometimes it really is just easy as combining (x) + -ic / -gender- a term doesn't have to have a complicated name (though, on that note, I recommend searching for a name before using it. I know a lot of the (noun) + -gender terms are already used- such as how soulgender [random example] has four separate definitions, one of which is exclusive; one, two, three, four).
Though, when it comes to having to come up with a name fully from scratch, a lot of it is just playing around with words that either fit the theme or are part of the definition, such as with Vemörrorive being from (Vemö)dalen + analog h(orror) + -ive or with Redelecive (upcoming term) being (red)stone + (elec)tricity + -ive. It also helps to try words in other languages! I mostly use esperanto for this now a days, since it's supposed to be a universal language, but I also like using latin. I also recommend using wikipedia's affix pages, if you'd rather use something other than -ic or -gender, since they also include definitions and examples, if you care about that
At the end of the day, a lot of it is trial and error, I have three years worth of flag making and ~2k terms already made plus more I haven't even drafted yet, some of which have awful color palettes and awkward names. Though, if you want feedback, it could be helpful to join the archivist discord server (an invite is on io-archival's pinned post), it is archiving focused, but a lot of members are coiners as well and there is a chat(?) specifically for coining
Im currently attempting to make a MUD version of alterpathy (as in a non radqueer alternative to MUD, as you did to xenomaladies) but im not exactly sure how to approach this, do you mind telling me a way to approach this without being disrespectful to people with mental disorders?
i am sorry i didn't see this ask. i would love to help you with this, but i am slightly confused. there is room in alterpathy for invented illnesses...
oh wait, i think i answered my own question. i think what you're wanting to coin is "alterpathy, but YES you're 'coining' a new disorder regardless of experiencing it", is that right?

Is it okay for me to identify as otherhearted if my “heavily impacts identity” is unclear i have autism so its bery hard for me understand the definition of otherhearted despite wanting to use it, i feel a sense of strong emotional pull and syncroncity that transcends my usual level of emotion, it tells me I need to communicate and speak with them somehow and “become one with them” (towards characters specifically) i dont know what it means, but it feels like a call that I need to abide by, what does this mean in your opinion have u experienced anything like this before
Only you get to decide what does and doesn't apply to your identity. We haven't experienced anything like what you're describing ourselves, but we see no need to avoid classifying it as otherheartedness, at least to test out how you feel about labelling it as such. "Heavily impacts identity" can be vague and mean a whole lot of things, but in my opinion, feeling such a strong draw toward characters beyond what you'd normally experience sounds like it could absolutely be classified as a hearttype.
Either way, if things are unclear and you find out later that you were wrong about the identity, that's okay! You can always learn and grow as you go.
