I've been telling my mom the truth of the story of Pocahontas since I was in grade school and yet every time the movie comes on she acts completely fucking clueless

She acts like the story is a 'slight' exaggeration of how she met her husband and I fucking lose it

But you wanna know why I have to repeat the story so many times? Because every fucking time I tell it she immediately gets up to leave because 'it just sounds so unpleasant, I'm trying to have a good day sagaoflust, just enjoy the fun movie'

Should I mention that this is a woman who's own mother was raised on a reservation that she visited several times throughout her childhood until her father began to forbid it? And at the same time forbid her mother from contacting her own family anymore less they have an influence on his good little Christian daughter???

This is a story my mom told me several times along with many about how her mother's heritage was stolen from her and given a 'good clean up' to look good to the neighbors and church community and how she was denied the opportunity hear and experience the history and lost culture that's in her own blood
