I said I would do it! Here's a handful of my characters as characters from the Mousetrap, continuing my trend of drawing my guyes in things that none of my mutuals have seen. Basically everything about the role choices is spoilers which I'll only get to under the cut but like. Yeah. Look at em :) Their heights are accurate which allows you to see just how fucking scary Face Stealer (Paravicini) is (he is 200 cm tall)
any more examples of bleed through syndrome and more information about it? im curious...
Other forms of bleed-through syndrome include animal ears, claws, horns, antlers, crests, scales, whatever have you! Besides Karleeen, there’s not very many examples in my cast who have it. Bertta Romero the Jaiko field agent cervitaur has a form of bleed-through syndrome that gives her ears and antlers of a white-tailed deer — it’s not something that all mammalian taurs get! Karleeen’s mother also has bleed-through syndrome, it’s a bit like how Karleeen has it (fur) but lower on her body and shorter. And! Of course, Stephen Stone the Sirpaverse OC by @thatonegaycactus has bat ears on occasion :3
There’s not too much to say about bleed-through syndrome, fur growth is the most common form and animal ears are the second most common form. Many types can occur in tandem with one another. They can be very minor and sometimes even “fixable” via spells — or if you want something permanent, surgery — but sometimes the effects are more severe or caused by a different mutation than the ones that have spell treatments. Different cause, same results, you know? There may even be an inherent danger to treating something if the methods aren’t tried and tested!
Notably, when people with bleed-through syndrome change form, they still retain the same bled-through features that they have normally. Karleeen still has a furry chest as a merm, Bertta would still have antlers and ears as a faun or as a merm, harpy, whatever. They’re in there deep as a part of their body.
Bleed-through syndrome is similar, but distinctly different, to satyrism and good old “hybrids”! Satyrism is a condition where a human is “stuck” in an in-between state of two “taur/faun types”, for example, a centaur and a faun or a merm and a harpy. People with satyrism often have traits similar to bleed-through, like fur and animal ears or crests or horns, but they don’t and can’t have a “pure” form because the magic-that-makes-you-a-[whatever] doesn’t read their genes right. Suoma Rintie the Jaiko field agent and Tintti Rintie the children’s show performer are two characters I have with satyrism, but you don’t know them. “Hybridism” (I need to come up with a name for it) meanwhile is a genetic mutation where someone’s various forms are a mix of their parents’ forms. Sirpa Kartanen the full-time commander and part-time mermaid is an example of a hybrid! She has faun traits and faun-shaped merm traits, and her mermaid form’s tail is a pretty even zander-porpoise mix. Hybrids can and do have various “forms”, and despite their nature as a mix of their parents’ phenotypes, they don’t have animal traits on their human upper body. Unless they have bleed-through as well. Then they do.
Thank you for the question!
Rediscovered this silly "guide" on "recognising" the humans and non-humans of Sirpaverse, made in 2023 — mostly it pokes fun at the fact that humans (and animals) in Sirpaverse are sometimes very really weird, on occasion even stranger than the idea people, who by definition are not even alive. Oh look! There's even guys you don't know about!
I redrew the Man and Billiam interaction because truth be told that idea creature is just really scary in-universe
Have you ever drawn just a regular centaur? Bottom half horse, top half human?
I.... have not!! Oh gosh!! Is Bertta Romero the cervitaur close enough!???

I pondered what my named taur characters would think about their animals of inspiration and how they would feel about being compared to them or discussion surrounding that animal. In no particular order:
Pikes are viewed very positively in Osmeri (even if wild pikes cause minor fish losses), they’re smart and determined fish, so Ahti wouldn’t mind being likened to one. If you asked him if he’s as slimy as a pike, he’d only laugh and say, “only in the water!” He can pretty easily brush off any negative pike comments that terrestrial folks say and is only the “normal” amount of upset that he’d be about fish hate in general. He doesn’t like pike-eating discussion, if only because a pike is like a dog to him.
Sirpa doesn’t really talk about being a part-time mermaid, but she doesn’t hide it either, so if you know her, you know. She’s most often identified as a zander, and zanders are indeed very relatable fish to her! She enjoys a tasty fish dinner as much as anyone and likes to fish in her leisure time — and zanders are, of course, fish-eating predators (porpoises too). Comments about Lazlo “reeling in quite a catch” are extremely unamusing to her and it’s best if you just stay quiet.
Don’t compare Karleeen to an actual spider. Please. Please. Please. Don’t talk about what efficient predators they are. Don’t talk about how they scare you. Don’t talk about their fangs and hunting tactics. She doesn’t mind spiders I promise please just don’t.
Bertta really doesn’t like being compared to deer. I mean, in gracefulness, maybe, but the daintiness and anxiousness and “zero brain cells”-edness of deer? Yeah no, screw that. Never describe her with a stare like a “deer in the headlights”, she’ll tell HR. Talks about deer being a nuisance are quite understandable to her, she’s driven around in the southwest coast and archipelago, she knows that the large number of white-tailed deer are a problem. Bertta thinks overall deer are pretty alright, but they’re not her favourite.
Great white sharks create this sort of awe in Cheikh. He would see them on occasion growing up, you never really get used to the sight. Makes you freeze in place and just stare in silence as the beast glides by. Great whites still have quite the fearful reputation in the Sirpaverse (large predators just get that), so Cheikh would find offence to being compared to one, given that most people like to ignore their environmental benefits and just focus on how dangerous they are and what a horrid nuisance they are to fishkeeping. You think he’s a killer!??? If he’s feeling energetic enough he’ll try to untangle the mess of misconceptions that is people talking badly about great whites, but the chances for the stars aligning are unlikely.
Must alkaa tuntuu et en oo ehkä ni hyvä täs.... x9
I drew lots of other things today, not any merms! No matter; Bertta Romero the cervitaur as a kind of hippocampus-like "merm" (I have not yet decided what species she would actually be inspired by as a merm)
