#benny stuff

I think that could be interesting because it's asking a cool question:

Can the enterprise of hunting people, even those who deserve to be hunted, ever be a Good thing?

What about when it's carefully, ethically done, out of necessity? Or is it always destined to be rotten because it falls from a rotten tree? Does the bonus of saving others, or sustaining other creatures give it additional moral weight?

If you squint, Andrea wanting to pick up where their father left off CAN sound a lot like Dean with regards to the (dubious) family mission of hunting, which makes her tangentially more interesting to me.

Benny on the other hand verbalizes that he escaped Purgatory to get his revenge; that was his PRIMARY reason for escaping/being/continuing forward. When that's challenged, he sort-of tail spins because he didn't imagine an after... OR what ruins of a person who survived that revenge might happen to look like (forever changed).

I may not be the best person to answer these asks, because I'm not as interested in some are in Benny's internal world. (I know, it's very hypocritical of me, since I like both John and Sam, but Benny's flat fatalism is a lot of of a barren landscape for me to wrap my head around.)

But as per your question, would he be a Bad guy? I think given what he see out of him, he'd be a Very (Sam-coded) Rationalizing Guy. In Purgatory, we get a glimpse of Dean chatting about Benny's reasons for going topside:

Benny rationalizes the crimes of vampires here:

BENNY: “Yep. And I think we both know which of our kinds kills more humans.” (i.e. My/our crimes are a drop in the bucket)

And pre-Benny saving Cas, it's VERY obvious that Dean is (perhaps via the script, correctly) thinking Benny's a lost cause:

DEAN: “What the hell do you know about the value of life? You're a vampire.”

BENNY: “I get it. You're worried what I might do if we make it topside. I'll start eating your little piggies. I already told you, man – by the time I got iced, I was strictly on blood transfusions, donated blood. Not donated to me, I'll give you that, but I paid good black-market scratch for it.” (i.e. I sustain the black market, but I don't do the crime directly.)
