Hello!!! This is my first hike of 2017 in the Belknap Range. I took a screen shot of my description from IG. Whiteface Mountain (1,670 ft.) is a quick 1.6 mile trip to the summit. A 3.2 round trip that took me roughly 3 hours all together. That included being chased by a dog and eating a snack at the top. This trail is a little tricky to find because it's in between two residential homes. Marked by blue blazers, this is an easy to follow trail. It connects with Piper about half way through, which turns into a green blazer. Stay on blue for Whiteface. You'll pass through ATV trails and a lot of mud and water pits. Don't stay too long - mosquito lakes!!! Near the summit the trail turns loose and rocky, watch your footing. It can be slippery when wet, as well. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are recommended!! The top is a mostly open peak with views all the way around. There are a few firepits at the top however there is no fires or camping in the Belknaps. It was incredibly windy at the top yesterday but kept the black flies away. Be weary of broken glass. :( The ATV people tend to party at the top, hence the firepits. This isn't a busy trail compared to Mount Major or even the other Belknaps. I saw a total of 7 hikers and 8 dogs the entire trip. Anyone can do this trail, it has a taste of ledges, wet grass/pineneedles, and loose rocks. Also in the summer there are wild blueberries along almost the entire trail!! So tasty. Remember to leave some for the critters. I think this is a fantastic start to anyone working on their Belknap Range Patch. Featured photos: Moze: THE BEST DOG EVER. Summit photo. Halfway point heading towards the meadow. (so green!).
