"The mortifying ideal of being known..."
Inspired by @andlightplay tags from this post.
When Jonathan eventually told Teddy the truth about everything, he was really upfront about everything. He didn't have to be.
He's looked into him, and knows more about him than anyone, deep and personal stuff, but has also figured him out...
I was there in the office that night and saw you hurt yourself, I know Roper is your father, I visited the monastery where you grew up, I spoke to someone there your life as a child waiting for that black car once a year, I visited your mother's grave, I know about the monthly rose delivery, I spoke to your long lost sister.
Like holy shit, talk about truly being seen! Teddy must have felt so raw and exposed. Yet understood. But Jonathon showed he did really care, and he was safe to be vulnerable with. No pretence needed.
And then there's the truth bombs Teddy didn't know...
Roper is lying and just using you, you're getting left behind, you have a half-brother who Roper sees as his real son and heir, he has a new passport and a fancy new home in England.
Someone's finally telling it like it is to his face, even though it hurts.
And then Jonathon is also honest about himself. Admits to everything.
I’m a British intelligence agent, I infiltrated his operation Egypt nine years ago and gained his trust, I betrayed him, I took his money, I'm the reason he was held in Syria and owes millions of dollars, I'm the reason you're helping him in the first place. Oh and I know more spanish than I let on... 😉
And how Pine rocked up alone and unarmed, showing so much trust!
Poor Teddy must have been so overwhelmed.
