Last month I wrote a piece on how a new night in Leeds called Gassed had taken full advantage of the growing Grime scene in the UK to create one of the best events around. 2 sell out nights at Hifi, the introduction of some of the best new DJs in the city and a sweaty rabble of smiling teenagers is perfect evidence of this point but they are not slowing down anytime soon. The boys behind the brand have made the audacious decision of booking out Beaverworks, Leeds’ premier venue, for their next extravaganza, and they’re getting a little help from us. After reading our last article, Spice and Gassed have sat down and dreamt of what could be a beautiful relationship, we’re now officially helping host this event and we couldn’t be more excited.
Of course with the bigger venue, you always look for a bigger show and that is what is coming. Gassed have went all out in securing some of the biggest names in Grime at the moment to perform alongside their usual resident DJs. Section Boyz, P Money, The Heatwave, Devilman and DJ Big Mikee have all been confirmed on the bill to make this a special party combining live music and top class mixing.
Section Boyz are coming off the back of a sold out UK tour, in which these six lads proved why they won the best newcomer at the 2015 MOBO awards. They’ll be in charge of the Warehouse for the majority of the night. P Money is a name familiar to any grime fan, one of the old guard, he will be in charge of the Tall Room supported by The Heatwave; sure to bring out some of the old bangers from the past. Down in the dungey basement (my own personal favourite room as the night wears on) Devilman will be bringing his best, probably dissing Skepta in the process, with DJ Big Mikee on the decks behind him.
The variety of rooms at Beaverworks offers the opportunity for the punters to take time away from the madness at times and try something new. For a long night you don’t always want full on, this venue is perfect for that, with the couches available outside in the smoking area being my idea of heaven a lot of the time. The sense of variety as well just gives this night another string in its bow, the original nights are commendable to get the hardcore fans exactly what they want, but for the wider audience, a larger crowd, more options are always necessary.
But of course, you lucky lot will be aiming to scramble in for the main event. Spice UK’s room. Only kidding, we know the big boys will take centre stage but what we are going to give you is that little rest bite away from the jumping as we go back to our roots and offer you the best Afro-Caribbean tuneage the world currently has on offer. Co-Founder Rob Bruce will be putting together a worldie of a set in the bar and we aim for the highest of standards, along with the rest of Leeds Student Radio who will be joining us on the night, we want to impress.

In the last preview, I told everyone how there is no definite answer on how far this night can go, due to Grimes sheer popularity, and they have shown with this step up in venue that they have the same attitude. They are giving the people exactly what they want with a sense of efficiency that is refreshing in today’s saturated market. March 4, See you there.
