For my last post I chose to post about funny creative images.

These sort of images can be found on comment sections of Facebook postsl and probably other social media networks. Certain posts on facebook seen by thousands or even millions of people, you will definitely find trolls whose comments are irrelevant to the post. I guess the purpose is to make people laugh and get thousands of likes. It is probably the most entertaining part of browsing through comments.

In the social media world new things happen rapidly, people come up with funny and creative ways to entertain themselves, and this is done for many reasons; the most common type is memes.

This image made me laugh, because at first glance it’s just a blob of lotion on someone’s hand, then after reading the caption I noticed the blob looks like it’s desperately praying. I love coming across these types images, I also save them.

This flier is for event that will be held at Macewan University on Thursday April 2nd; my sister and a couple other people are putting this event together.

Also, for my group project for this class, we are doing a documentary style video where we highlight the purpose of the event.

We still haven't completed the project so I have no idea how it will turn out, however I am hopeful and optimistic.

The purpose of this event is to bring together students who identify as African or Caribbean and appreciate as well as celebrate our cultural diversity. So far I have met many students who identify as African or Caribbean, and some of them are international students. It’s interesting to get to know these students and hear their stories and experiences.

I am looking forward to this event and also how our project will turn out as well!

I also hope my group learns something interesting or new about the different cultures within the African people.

Out of all the pictures I've come across, this is by far my favorite photo!

This wedding picture was taken by my aunt who lives in the States.

The picture depicts a woman doing a traditional Somali dance at a wedding, this image is captured while she’s in motion. This type of dance is done in a circle of women and you are cheered on with the drumming.

Everything about this photo is lovely to me, the colorfully dressed women behind her, the lighting, the wooden floor, her facial expression, the henna on her hand, the positioned she’s frozen in, everything is just gorgeous!

My aunt is a photographer, and this is one of her works. Because I am familiar with the dance I know what she’s about to do next. Judging by her smile this wedding seems like a fun wedding to be at.

This post is about student life at Macewan University, and I chose to present laptops as part of student experience at universities. I took a photo of laptops of my cousins’ while studying at the library. Laptops are part of many students’ education, notes are taken on it, papers are written with it, online quizzes/exams are also written on it.

Due to technological advances, we are moving away from  hand written notes and papers. Laptops and desktop computers are favorable, especially to university faculties and students.

Since the winter semester is coming to an end, final papers, projects, assignments, and exams are all due during this time, and students are stressed during this time as well. Although our laptops help us excel in our academic careers, it also help destress: social media, netflix, YouTube, etc.

I find this image iconic!

I don't know if most Canadians know,  but this is referred to as the Oka Crisis, there was a land dispute between a group of Mohawk people and the town of Oka, Quebec in the late 1990s. The town of Oka wanted to build a golf course and residential development onto sacred land which had traditionally been used by the Mohawk. It included pineland and a burial ground, marked by standing tombstones of their ancestors. 

Finding a war photo on the internet is not particularly a pleasant thing to do. In a documentary we watched in class titled: War Photographer by James Nachtwey. The documentary is about Nachtwey going into war torn countries such as the Bosnian genocide and the Rwandan genocide and capturing chaotic images.

This picture is on of Nachtwey’s photographs, and the caption is: a young girl warily eyes a guerrilla fighter in the Lubero district, where a rebel group meets with U.N. personnel. From what I could find out about this photo from the internet, it was taken in Congo and there’s a brief commentary about it: “The essay opens with an image of a child who, although she may not be in direct peril, is certainly in a dangerous situation from which she cannot free herself.  The man with the gun is ambiguous -- doubly so, since we can't see his face.  Is he friend or foe?”

It’s hard to make a commentary about a photograph if one does not know the back story. It’s not a pleasant picture for sure, because there’s a little girl who looks concern and a man with a gun who we do not see his face.

Above is a picture of Solange Knowles's wedding picture; Solange is Beyonce's sister.

This photo illustrates Solange (the bride) in the middle her sister Beyonce on her right, and her mom on her left. There's also 8 other women standing in various angels behind her. What all of these women have in common is that they are all Black/African American women, wearing white, standing tall, and looking directly at the camera.

I love this picture for many reasons and I will mention a couple. The first reason is that this is not a "traditional" american wedding picture. If you are not following certain celebrities you wouldn't know this is actually a wedding picture. The second reason I love this photo is that although the bride is the focus and she is the center and her wardrobe is different from the other women (which is ok because she is the bride), she doesn't take too much attention away from the rest of the women; Solange doesn't distract me from the rest of the women, I am able to fully analyze each woman individually.

With respect to the concepts discussed in class (composition basics) I will briefly mention which rules apply to this picture!

Rule #1- Simplicity- this picture is indeed simple, Black women in white standing tall and straight looking at the camera.

Rule #3 & 4- Aspect ratio- this picture is definitely symmetrical and also follows the rule of thirds to some extent.

Rule #9 (favourite rule)- Breaking the rule- This is photo does break traditional/common/known rule of a wedding picture, and that is what makes it incredible.

In conclusion, I love this picture!

This commercial shows high class wealthy individuals living in a mansion and the narrator talks about living in a modern time with brand name diamonds and brand name vehicles and other brand name items, then concludes with brand name cigarettes. The cigarettes were the focus of the commercial and it was highly glamorized. The John Player branded cigarette was made to seem "the world finest achievement" and it was luxurious. It also mentions it is a cigarette that is highly desired. One's image of wealth is completed with this brand of smoke.

This commercial is not relevant in 2015 because we all know that tobacco cigarettes are incredible harmful and causes cancer. Even people who still smoke cigarettes today know that smokes are dangerous to the health.
