A fundamental flaw plaguing both Big Brother UK and Big Brother Australia is the persistent presence of bigotry. For reasons that are both baffling and unacceptable, these versions of the show consistently cast individuals with prejudiced views while significantly undercasting People of Color (POC). This toxic combination creates a deeply uncomfortable dynamic where the one or two POC Houseguests are consistently forced into the role of educating others or defending themselves against a barrage of microaggressions and right-wing talking points. They are left to navigate this hostile environment entirely on their own, without adequate support from a more diverse house or Big Brother.
Furthermore, when these Houseguests understandably react to the constant provocation, the house often mislabels them as "aggressive" a damaging stereotype that is disproportionately applied to POC, especially women. This unfair characterization then influences the public vote, leading to the POC contestant's premature eviction. Rather than being a fun, strategic social experiment, the viewing experience becomes a miserable cycle of witnessing the same patterns of intolerance, gaslighting, and injustice season after season.
