The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.

And I am not going to mince words here:

A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.

That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.

"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.

he knows that hes supposed to want to change but kinda doesnt really. maybe. so capn clark doesnt want to attack him outright. maybe. maybe he does.

the second clark decides that who he is - the rage, the anger, the unwillingness to accept that he has some choice in his actions - is the exact moment capn clark decides to give in to the rage and terrorizing compulsions.

capn clark is more upsetting to me. hes painful to look at. hes every negative aspect of clark visually captured when hes at his lowest. clark attempting to do the commerical was painful to watch. not in a "omg CRINGE" but seeing someone brought so low. and knowing it didnt have to be. the commercial and clarks whole life couldve been fine but critically its not the life clark feels he deserves and thus wont accept. so every day is like chewing glass. its awful.

"There's no thoughts, no pain, no ego. No fear. They simply exist. Like furniture."

But then when he turns the light off, the wheelchair user turns his lamp on. When Mary hits The Pirate with the concrete piece, he yells in pain. Clark consoles The Pirate as though its feelings might be hurt. And when the memory of his wife sees The Pirate, she tries desperately to get away.

All the others are roughly human-sized, but Clark.....

I think the backrooms don't just see things and remember them. I think they use people's memories.

The Pirate is a towering, violent monster because that's how people see him. And maybe he also sees himself as more important and powerful than those around him.

That's why he's a pirate. Even though he didn't spend much time actually wearing the costume, most people only know him from the ad.

But they're drawing more strongly from Clark's memories than most. (Probably because of his proximity to the rift.) That's why the recreation of the furniture store is so high-fidelity. That's why his wife is there, and one of the more active remembered people.
