i do love how both the supergirl and superman films featured the moral lesson of “it’s beneficial to kill pedophiles/abusers/genocidal world leaders etc BUT it’s also important to have people in the world who refuse to kill at all costs, especially if those people are vulnerable & developing (e.g. children) or immensely powerful & capable of doing good without violence (e.g. superman)” and honestly it’s kind of based
clark taking everyone to the beach for a day out and him + the justice gang + lois watching in horror as krypto swings kara around by her foot and skips her across the ocean into the horizon like a flat rock
i think when actors need to leave a show for whatever reason but the character is important and doesnt need to be written off / writing them off would make the story worse i think they should just hire a new actor for the character but, and this is the crucial bit, hire a similar-looking actor of a different gender. Yeppp they look different bc they transitioned between seasons. Obviously
the british sci-fi comedy red dwarf actually did this in the late 80s! the actor norman lovett who played the ship's computer left over pay/transport disputes & they recast the role with hattie hayridge, who had previously played an alternate universe female version of the character
the in-universe reasoning given was that holly missed the female version of themself so much that they chose to become her and it's never once addressed outside of a 'previously on' crawl at the start of the first episode of the third series holly just Is A Woman Now and we all get on with our lives
you put those tags on this post where they belong

Sometimes your bad coworker will be like "I can't do anything right & I ruin everything I touch :(" and you can't even comfort them because like damn. Yeah. You really can't do anything right and you do ruin everything you touch☝️

"chekhov's gun" my ass. he used a phaser.
To me, the most compelling scene in the new Supergirl was when Kara speaks with her father after seeing that he is making her an escape pod. The dialogue is in Kryptonian. And that is the most poignant and elegant dialogue in the film to me. Kara's lines and the emotion put into her saying to him, "I am only one tiny life," and her calm, clear articulation of her vision of herself being allowed to die beside her people and her mother and father was so profound and existential. And when he explains why they need to her live, you know she would agree. The price, the sheer weight, the endless gravity of that is so obvious. I am honestly not used to that depth in these superhero films. Both her desire and that of her parents felt so authentic. That conveyed tragedy and profound love. An impossible situation. A critical, defining experience. That was the heart of her character to me. When she flew up into space to scream in silence, that was a compelling image. That dialogue, though, hit me deep in my soul. This film would have been worth it for that exchange alone for me. I just can't think of anything I've seen that was like that before.

Clark: Could you come help the justice gang?
Kara: Woof I wish I could, but I don't want to.
shes the moment
big fan of baby krypto biting superman
Look out
I remember right after the Superman movie come out everyone was making the “Clark saved Lex’s life by saving Krypto before Kara ever found out” jokes and its absolutely fantastic to me how supergirl 100% confirmed that to be true. Lex doesn’t even KNOW how lucky he is that he got the emotionally stable super

He sees the good in everyone… and I see the truth.
Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Supergirl (2026) dir. Craig Gillespie
Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.
