linux adventures update: I made a Mistake and had to do a hard reinstall of my OS, but on the upside it took like 5 minutes to get everything working again (aside from the like aesthetic changes I made) because I backed up all of my important dot files to github
just wanted to share that i finished "dressing up" my lutris covers so theyre a bit more cohesive and i added much-needed categories!
blender and bodyshop get their own covers for very cool'n'spooky reasons. highly recommend!
for anyone wondering, in the first screenshot with the sims 2 splash screen and "waverly": the splash loads the nhood selector in case i need pleasantview or strangetown for testing purposes (i realize i can have separate load-ins for these too but meh), waverly just loads right into waverly! all the entries in that top screenshot all load into their respective nhoods/screens 🖤
i had this on windows too and i LOVED it so im really really relieved i can have it here on linux too 🫶🏼

I am quite fond of linux, I feel like a kid playing with legos
hello people on the computer
very genuine question - how hard is it to switch from windows to linux? my major concerns are mostly game compatability & scrivener - scrivener doesnt offer a linux version but i use it to log fanfic & OC writing notes, thoughts about games im playing, etc, and i really dont want to lose that or have to switch to something else. is there a way for me to get scrivener compatible with a linux OS? or would i basically HAVE to have windows & linux dual booted, and then boot into windows whenever i want to use scrivener? (editing to say: apparently there is a whole forum thread about how to do this with linux and the most recent consensus seems to be lutris? thoughts?)
as far as games, i skimmed through protonDB and threw in my steamID and everything, everything i play is either gold or platinum (so minor tweaking at best), so that gives me hope at least. how bad is modding, though? i dont use a lot of mod managers (vortex burned me when i was in my early days of game modding so now i mostly just rawdog it, but i still use bg3mm for baldurs gate & mod organizer 2 for fallout & stardew valley & a few other things.) im used to being able to just download stuff, unzip it, drag & drop or cut & paste it in the file location i need it to be in, and then run the game. my understanding of linux is mostly seeing people work directly in the console, but theres a file manager that can be used to do the same thing on windows right? am i going to have Issues modding games if i switch to linux?
also... what version of linux do ppl recommend for ex-windows users? i see bazzite recommended for gaming / steam gaming especially, i assume it works for like. More than just gaming? again, i dont intend to do a lot else, i mostly just use my laptop for watching videos, gaming, and writing. i know basically everything else i need that Isnt steam or scrivener is available through flathub, so i think beyond that im set, right??
advice and thoughts would be appreciated - im not a tech expert & a lot of linux setup is going over my head, but im kind of getting tired of microsoft & the way things keep getting worse.
