I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the Waynes taking Tim on his first ever vacation! At the end of summer, they could go to a cabin as a last big adventure before school begins. To celebrate the birthday of my favorite puppy, Tim Drake, here are my ideas for how the road trip to the cabin would go :)
I’m imagining that going to the cabin is an annual trip for the Wayne pack and so it’s something that they were all really looking forward to and hyping up for Timmy so he doesn’t get too nervous. It’ll be the furthest he’s ever been from home and the first time he’s ever left Gotham, but he knows he has his new pack with him to guide him and to keep him safe. Tim trusts his new family to make this a good experience.
I’m thinking it’ll be maybe a 4-6 hour drive. I want it to be long enough to be considered a real roadtrip, without it being too long that it’s overwhelming for Tim. I don’t have a specific destination in mind for them, I’m just picturing Bruce owning a large cabin in a wooded area near a lake or beach or something. It’s very private and safe, a territory large enough for them to explore without the worry of any strangers ruining it. Since Bruce has owned the cabin for years it already has all the nesting supplies, games, toys, DVDs, and anything else the pack could want to have a happy vacation.
The ride to the cabin will be Tim’s first long car ride. Bruce goes all out to make sure his boys have enough things to keep them comfortable, well-fed, and entertained. The pups all have at least one scented blanket to cuddle with and to keep them cozy.
They leave early enough in the morning that Tim and Jason are so sleepy and the best way to get them out of bed and into the car is the promise that they can nap on the drive. The night before, Bruce had asked them for permission to enter each of his pup’s dens so that he can get them up on time and gently rouse them from their nests.
If the boys all slept in their own dens that night, then come morning Bruce would go to rouse Dick first. He knocks on the door just in case he’s up already, but he finds his oldest son still slumbering. Knowing Dick has given him permission to enter his nest at any time, he sits at the border, reaching over so that he can card his fingers through Dick’s hair and brush the strands out of his face.
Dick leans into the touch right away, always waking up easier when it’s slow and quiet. Bruce starts humming a song his mother used to sing for him, one he’s been singing for Dick since his first week living in the Manor. Dick wakes up pretty easily, sitting up so that he can get a real scenting before starting on his morning routine. After Dick is ready, Bruce presses a kiss to his head and goes to Jason’s room next.
Bruce has the same blanket permission to enter Jason’s nest whenever, so after a knock on the door he finds his pup sprawled out in the middle of his nest, and an open book lying next to his head. With a fond shake of the head, he grabs the forgotten bookmark off of the nightstand and marks the page, ensuring that Jason doesn’t lose his spot. Rubbing a hand over Jason’s back, he starts murmuring, “Good morning, Jaylad. It’s time to wake up now, sweetheart. I know you’re tired, but you’re welcome to nap in the car. We have to get going soon, darling.” It takes a few minutes of gentle crooning before Jason really rouses, clearly having stayed up past his bedtime.
Eventually, Jason pulls himself out of bed, dragging his favorite blanket behind him as he yawns and rubs his eyes. He grabs his book and stumbles down to the car, falling back asleep as soon as he’s buckled in.
After Dick and Jason are both up, Bruce goes to rouse Timmy. He talked with him the night before to make sure he has permission both to enter his den and to touch his nest so that he can get him up for their trip. Tim agreed, knowing he wouldn’t be able to wake up on his own.
Bruce knocks on the door, and when Tim doesn’t answer, he opens it slowly, not wanting to accidentally startle him. He finds Tim curled up in a ball, his teddy bear clutched to his chest in one hand and his other hand up by his slack mouth, drool soaking into the blanket he’s lying on. He fell asleep suckling on his fingers again. Bruce is ever so careful as he sits down, knowing any sudden jostling will frighten the little cub. He lets out a low purr, knowing the sound will help soothe his puppy instincts.
Only after Tim stirs, wriggling closer and making his wants clear, does Bruce scoop him and his teddy bear up into his arms. Tim mewls, a needy noise, nuzzling close.
(I’m not sure if at this point in Bad Puppy Tim will be calling Bruce ‘Daddy’ already or not, but for the sake of this post let’s say he does because it’s cute)
“I’ve got you, cub,” Bruce whispers, “Daddy has you. You’re safe. We’re going to the cabin today, do you remember? We’re gonna have a big car ride and then we’ll have so much fun at the cabin. There, such a good pup, you’re alright,” he croons at him, his rumbling purrs helping settle any possible fussiness from being woken up so early.
Eyes still closed, Timmy whines, “Daddy, ‘m sleepy.” He brings his hand back up to his mouth, nibbling on his fingers.
Grabbing his lovey from the nest, Bruce helps guide the teether into his mouth so that he doesn’t hurt his fingers, “Oh, I know you’re so sleepy this morning, my baby. You can nap in the car, love, and you can sleep as long as you need.” When it’s clear that Tim isn’t properly waking up any time soon, he subtly checks his pull-up, relieved that it’s dry so that he can take him straight out to the car rather than making him cranky by changing his pull-up first thing in the morning. They’ll stop for breakfast and a bathroom break once the pups are more awake. Right now, the priority is getting them into the car.
They had already packed the majority of the luggage the night before so that the transition to the road is as smooth as possible. Bruce made sure the diaper bag was placed within easy access in case he needs to change Tim at a restroom on the way to the cabin. He already talked it over with Tim, explaining that it’ll make for a much less stressful car ride if he is in a pull-up so that if he has an accident it is contained. He doesn’t want to imagine the meltdown Timmy would have if he accidentally wet himself in his car seat.
Bruce is a bit worried that Tim might have anxiety about using public restrooms, especially if he wets his pull-up and Bruce has to help him change, but he’ll be sure to find a private bathroom that they could go into. He doesn’t want Tim to be embarrassed if he anxiously assumes that the other people in the restroom are judging him.
Bruce stands up, cradling his baby in his arms, ensuring he has his special blankie, his most beloved teddy bear, and his lovey. Bruce would turn the car around if he accidentally forgot any one of his sons’ most cherished belongings, but he’d like to avoid such a big upset if he can. Tim is sound asleep by the time he gets to the car. He gently places him into his car seat, double checking the buckles before placing his teddy bear and his lovey in his lap and tucking him in with his blankie.
Dick is in the car, awake but clearly ready to go back to sleep. Bruce checks on him and Jason, who’s still conked out, making sure they’re alright and ready for the drive. Once Alfred is in the car, they head out.
I’m thinking the seating arrangement for the car will be Bruce driving, Alfred in the passenger seat, Tim and Jason in the middle row, and then Dick in the back row. Tim is in a car seat with a five point harness. Maybe Jason is in a booster seat still since he’s short for his age from his early childhood malnutrition.
After about an hour, the pups all wake up and they ‘convince’ Alfred to let them get a fun breakfast to properly start off their roadtrip. They could get smoothies, chocolate milk, donuts, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. Tim gets very excited about being allowed to eat in the car, knowing it’s something Jack and Janet would have prohibited. The car fills with a symphony of the pack’s purrs as they enjoy their yummy meal.
They have several options for entertainment for the pups. Bruce would totally have one of those DVD players built into the ceiling of the car so they can pull the screen down and all three of them can watch a movie. They even have those headphones that will allow the kids to listen to the movie, while allowing Bruce and Alfred to drive and listen to their own music. They would only bring movies that are appropriate for Timmy since he’s still so little and very sensitive. I’m thinking maybe Winnie The Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Little Bear, and other non-scary movies.
Tim has at least two blankies, his favorite teddy bear, his lovey, his Janey doll, and at least a few other stuffies as well. It would be very hard for him to choose which stuffies go on vacation with him, he’d want all of them to come with and have fun. Bruce would have to reassure him that his stuffies can take turns and that the next time they go on vacation he can bring different toys if he’d like, that way over time everyone will get a chance to go on a trip with him. Bruce knows that he’ll even let Tim bring his giant teddy bear with if he wanted to, because he’ll do anything at all to make him happy, even if that means finding a way to pack a teddy bear as big as Tim himself.
Bruce makes sure that there are plenty of fidgets, chewies, and teethers for Tim to play with and gnaw on. He’s definitely worried that Tim will bite his fingers raw during the drive, especially if he gets anxious, and so he wants him to have alternatives. It’s helpful that Jason is beside Tim in the car so that he can remind him to use a chewy instead of biting his fingers.
There’s also coloring/activity books, books to read, stickers, and other toys. Jason would mostly spend his time reading books, watching movies, eating snacks, sleeping, or chatting with the rest of the pack. Dick would focus on making sure Tim and Jason are calm, but if they’re occupied then he’s mostly listening to music or on his phone (likely texting Wally). Tim will be the most restless since he’s not used to being in the car for so long. Tim will busy himself playing with his stuffies/dolls, cuddling his teddy bear, playing with his fidgets, chewing on his teethers, watching movies, looking out the window, and coloring.
Bruce will make sure they take time to stretch and do a fun physical activity at each rest stop so that they can get their wiggles out. Maybe they stop at a gas station beside a large field and the boys get to do a bit of gymnastics, running and jumping around so they aren’t as restless in the car.
Even though they’ll be taking a rest stop every hour so that Tim can go potty and keep his pull-up dry, Alfred packs them plenty of snacks. They’d even have a cooler with drinks, including heatmilk for Tim in case he gets carsick and becomes too nauseous for actual food. Jason definitely eats the majority of the snacks, and him openly indulging encourages Tim to eat more as well.
They’ll stop for lunch for sure. Maybe they’ll go to something like a Cracker Barrel so they could go in the gift shop and pick out toys and candy for the car, and still be able to get a good meal. Tim would definitely find a stuffed animal he immediately falls in love with, wanting it to be a reminder of his first ever vacation. Jason would probably find a cool book, and Dick could find some postcards to send his friends, but mostly to send to Wally.
Though there are moments of restlessness and maybe some crankiness, they arrive at the cabin without any major meltdowns. Most of the car ride is filled with happy chatter and content purrs.
Tim successfully gets through his first little road trip and now he’s officially on vacation!
my batpack from @andpierres came in!!! four days after the post office marked it as delivered (awful. i was so anxious about it being at someone else's house
my flying fix is so cute!! i fit so many pins in it lmfao
the inner ear color swatches seemed to get a little bent and cracked in shipping but i think it may have been the cold front we've had?? idk. i am so ecstatic over this 🥺🥺🥺
Alrighty! I think the batpack came out well. The main challenge is finishing the thick layers so if I want to make more, and I do, I’ll have to fine tune that step.
So basically you take a long strap with clips and attach as you see fit. The upper loops are big enough for the strap and clips to go through. Or you use the top two and make it a cross-body or shoulder bag.
This one is based on the noctule bat, a very cute variety, that is decidedly not black. But the recipient favors black so we’ll ignore that detail.

I had some old doodles of Bruce and Charlie as little kids, so I decided to digitize them for fun. Charlie is 8 years younger than Bruce, so that's why she's a baby, silly lil goober while her brother is traumatized uwu made two versions since I like colored lines but also like a solid black copy uwu
So I just read Teen Titans Academy Volume 1, and it seriously feels like the Bat Pack’s backstory is the bat family seeing three orphans following Batman around and sending Nightwing out to stop the adoption before it happens. Like that is the only valid explanation for 1. Nightwing always finding the kid(s) before they reach Bruce and 2. Why Bruce somehow doesn’t know kids are following him, because they definitely aren’t as subtle as Tim
Some of the adorable nerdy pins and keychains that I’ll be putting into my various boxes very soon.
