For one, the character reminded him of his own personal life experiences: forced to face the grim reality of darkness at a young age - 8 years old, the same as he himself had been! - and learning just how evil one man could be in the sense of drastically changing your life because of one terrible action. Seeing the devastation of a black haired, blue eyed boy witnessing the death of his parents by a mugger caused a heart-wrenching flashback to enter Mako’s mind, and immediately, he sympathized with the character. Bruce Wayne, he recalled.

Following that event came the brooding. Mako was good at that. And just as well, the one who became trained and dedicated as a vigilante dressed to the theme as a bat also displayed the desire to bring criminals to justice and ensure safety for the innocents, which was a role that Mako believed he was now fulfilling in his duty as an officer.

A detective, actually. Make that another point scored in similarity to this Bruce guy, who was often referred to as the World’s Greatest Detective.

Of course, he knew this was fictional. This ‘Batman’ was not real. However, Mako was still drawn to the character and the traits they shared, and thus...well…

He felt like Batman, believed himself capable to play out the part.

Clothed in what was to be a symbol of fear, to instill that fear upon the evil in the world, Mako could patrol Republic City, which could be his very own Gotham to safeguard.

And so, why shouldn’t this be a worthy aspiration to chase? He was just so much like the goddamn Batman!

“I am vengeance…”

To avenge his parents, who were wrongfully murdered by scum who should never get a chance to inflict such pain upon another child or person again.

“I am the night…”

An embodiment of darkness, to ward off those that blot out the light.

The black bat symbol gleaming proudly on his chest, Mako smirked as he pulled the cowl over his head. Grabbing the folds of his cape, he brought his arm upward, eyes scrutinizing his surroundings as if he suspected something afoul in his own home. Turning in slow circles with his arm drawn over his mouth, he finally stood tall, unfurling his cape to fan around his body as he extended his arms upward in a dramatic show.

“I. Am. BATMAKO!”

...And it was in that horrifying moment of reenactment that he realized he had an audience, whom was standing agape in the entryway to his apartment. Startled amber eyes met befuddled cerulean blues, their gazes holding that of the other for a long minute. Mako cursed inwardly: dammit, this was Korra. Korra. He would never hear the end of being caught in the midst of his little dress-up party! He grimaced in embarrassment, the deep blush spreading along his cheeks somewhat hidden behind the cowl as the Avatar’s expression steadily transformed from shock to satisfaction. With arms crossed, a smirk pulled at her lips.

He failed to see Bolin and Asami behind her, his younger brother snickering as the white flash of a camera captured the scene.
