Can we talk about the Devil’s Hole tho. The pupfish are crazy enough but like. The cave???? It’s ethereal. It’s described as the most beautiful cave the explorers have ever seen. It gets miniature tsunamis in response to earthquakes on the opposite side of the world and it’s not well understood why. Divers lowered a weighted rope into an unknown chamber called the “Infinity Room” and it went down over a thousand feet without hitting the bottom. The native people of the region have legends of “water babies” that will pull you into the depths if you swim in the pool too long. There’s at least two human bodies somewhere down there. There’s a downward current in the deeper parts and we don’t know where it goes. Deep in my soul I feel that it’s the entrance to Something beyond our understanding and I can’t shake this feeling. Also I would die to protect the pupfish if I had to, I love those fucking fish so much oh my god
