In 1952, this article highlighted the solution to a short lived mystery. A mysterious sea monster had been washed against the sea wall in Corpus Christi, Texas. The sea turtle is thought to have been a leatherback due to its reported shell measurements.
The St. Augustine Monster is one of the most famous of all globsters. It was discovered on the coast of St. Augustine, Florida on November 30th, 1896, by a group of children. It had to be completely out of the sand to be able to be seen in its entirety. It was estimated to be 18 feet in length and 7 feet tall, as well as weigh up to 5 tons. It was of a rubbery texture and was a very pale pink in color.
The boys reported their find to local physician, DeWeitt Webb, who also happened to be the founder of the Augustine Historical Society and Institute of Science. He went to take a look at it the following day. Webb was the only academic to take a look at the creature on site. He believed it to be an octopus of some kind.
It was a mystery for nearly 100 years with guesses of its identity ranging from octopus to a dolphin. There were test conducted multiple times of portions of the carcass, studing the identifying amino acid compositions. Tests in 1995 came to the conclusion that “the remains of a whale, likely the entire skin. . . nothing more or less.” In 2004, the answer was concluded for the last time. They agreed with the 1995 examination. The tests of the St Augustine Monster identified it as being decomposing whale blubber.
Globster boy :)
The Stronsay Beast was a globster that washed ashore on the island of Stronsay, Scotland, in 1808. A newspaper called The Orcadian described it as such: “Its flesh was described as being like 'coarse, ill-coloured beef, entirely covered with fat and tallow and without the least resemblance or affinity to fish'. The skin, which was grey coloured and had an elastic texture was said to be about two inches thick in parts.”
The mysterious carcass was said to measure in at 55 feet long and even then, it was missing the end of its tail so it would have been longer. Researchers believe that the creature could have been a decomposing basking shark. The largest recorded basking shark was around 40 feet long. If the Stronsay Beast was a basking shark, it would have definitely been an incredible discovery being that large.

This is a tiny article from the June 1st, 1939, edition of The Telegraph-Herald. It goes on to describe a fascinating washed up sea monster from the shores of Oregon. The newspaper lovingly called the carcass a "whatizzit". The globster was described as being whale-like with a "weird head and neck" and being 22 feet long.
Globster
RARITY: ★☆☆☆☆ | THREAT: ★★☆☆☆ SIZE: Variable.
HABITAT:
Most frequently formed and found near oceans, but occasionally a freshwater globster occurs. Some wander toward populated areas where they can be found in drain pipes, sewers, and gutters.
OVERVIEW:
Globsters are ooze entities that form in oceans that quickly become pests for those in coastal communities. A combination of slime, organic tissues, and water, globsters are slimy, featureless masses. These mindless oozes are driven by the blind impulse to absorb more biomass into themselves in order to grow and multiply. The living and the dead will be absorbed all the same.
Globsters can come in a wide variety of different colors (collect them all); some are mostly transparent while others might be opaque, tarry, or fleshy. Given their ooze-y nature, they can move in both water and on land, able to contort and squeeze their amorphous bodies through any crevice or opening in search of prey. Once they detect something edible nearby, they attempt to engulf it. The victim is then constricted and drowned inside the globster, before slowly being dissolved and added to the globster’s mass. Once a globster gets too big to move easily, they split into new separate entities. This rapid multiplication rate makes globsters a constant threat that hunters in coastal areas keep in check.
ABILITIES:
Globsters are able to squish through any opening.
They can detect nearby prey without any need for sight or sound.
While not strong in the traditional sense, globsters are very tarry and difficult to break free of once they’ve grabbed you.
They are immune to all mind-affecting powers and small piercing weapons like knives or bullets. Trying to physically harm a big globster is very risky because it’s likely to pull you inside of it.
WEAKNESSES:
Although relentless, globsters can be outwitted as they are mindless and will just attack whatever edible target is closest, and not at a very high speed.
Enough brute force smashing can eventually reduce a globster to oily sludge, although fire is the most efficient globster killing method.
Individuals who are wet (either by the rain or… by nature), can easily escape from being grabbed by globsters unharmed, and can’t be absorbed by them.
VARIANTS
BANEFUL GROP:
These balls of writhing acid roll around the ground, inflicting their destructive acid on anything they tread over. While they’re usually small, contact with a baneful grop is so lethal that there is always a trail of acid-burned plants and dirt behind them and human skin, muscle, and bone would immediately melt away. It’s thought that their acid might be stronger than any known to science, and no one knows exactly what they consist of or how they grow. Being near a baneful grop can be dangerous, especially if it’s larger, because they begin to give off noxious fumes when past about the size of a basketball. They seemingly have no mind or intentions and can be stopped by stabbing them with a magically charged weapon. All other weapons that contact them will simply dissolve in their acid. No one has records of a grop of the non-baneful variety.
FLESHSTER:
Perhaps even more disgusting than regular globsters, fleshsters are a variant of globster consisting exclusively of human and animal flesh. This glob of warm skin rolls around an area, collecting mass by picking up living things via suction and melding them into its “body”. Those caught in the fleshster will fuse to it, their consciousness and senses fading away as they become increasingly assimilated. Once something has been picked up by a fleshster and melded into it, it can’t be undone without difficult magic. Small fleshsters can have trouble picking up larger animals and people, so in some cases, one may be able to bat it away before assimilation begins.
MAGOBBET:
Formed from the magical “remnants” of imperfectly cast spells, magobbets are driven to increase their mass by absorbing more magic. They look like balls of animated fuzz that often fizzle and flare as if electrified. They follow magic in the same non-sentient way a magnet attracts the opposite pole, and will often end up trailing behind spellcasters or other sources of magic. Magobbets sap up any magic spells or rituals attempted near them, leading to them increasing in size and their appearance becoming more lively with magical energies. While this isn’t inherently problematic, magobbets radiate the magic they consist of, which can be inconvenient at best and catastrophic at worst. They can be destroyed by a weapon wielded by the undead.
