Lessons from the First Christmas Story: Looking Back to Understand our Future

Christmas is more than bright lights, gifts and parties. It is about Jesus Christ who came to Israel to rescue His people. He is coming back again as the judge of the living and the dead. From His birth, we can get a glimpse of what to expect before Christ comes back. Please click on this link to view the study.

You have already heard about the Dead Sea, haven’t you? It is a salt lake on the border of Jordan and Israel. It is the lowest point in the world. It is one of the the deepest lakes in the world. It is one of the saltiest lakes in the world. It means that you can easily float in the Dead Sea, you will not sink even if you can’t swim…. 🙂 My mother can’t swim and she was afraid of going into the water, but she had no problem in floating on it. The Dead Sea is roughly 8 times saltier than the ocean, that is why there is no life in it. It is easy to float but be careful, don’t put your face into the water because the salty water goes into your mouth and eyes and it hurts a lot. The taste of the salt remains on your lips the whole day. The salty water can help to heal some serious skin diseases like psoriasis. The mud of the Dead Sea contains many minerals that is why it is good to your skin, it makes it smoother. It was a wonderful experience to come here 🙂

Mindenki hallott már a Holt-tengerről, igaz?! Ez egy sós tó Jordánia és Izrael határán. Ez a Föld legalacsonyabban fekvő pontja. Ez a világ egyik legmélyebb tava. Ez a világ egyik legsósabb tava. Ez azt jelenti, hogy ha nem tudtok úszni sem kell attól tartani, hogy elsüllyedtek, mert könnyedén lebeghettek víz felszínén… 🙂 Az anyukám  nem tud úszni és félt bemenni a vízbe, de nem volt semmi problémája, simán fent maradt. A Holt-tenger kb. 8-szor annyi sót tartalmaz, mint az óceánok vize, ezért nincs benne semmilyen élet. Vigyázzatok, ne tegyétek az arcotokat a vízbe, mert a sós víz a szájba és a szembe kerülhet és az nagyon fáj. A só íze így is rajta marad az ajkatokon egész nap. A sós víz segíthet néhány súlyos bőrbetegség, például a pikkelysömör, gyógyításában. A Holt-tenger iszapja sok ásványi anyagot tartalmaz, ezért jó a bőrnek, simábbá teszi azt. Egy élmény volt eljutni ide 🙂

Qumran caves / Qumram barlangok

The Qumran caves are ancient caves where the oldest biblical documents, the Dead Sea Scrolls, were found. You can go up by cable car. We saw the caves from far… A Qumram barlangok olyan ősi barlangok, ahol a legrégebbi bibliai dokumentumokat, a Holt tengeri tekercseket találták meg. Fel lehet menni a barlangokhoz felvonóval.  Mi messziről csodáltuk meg őket…

  Jericho / Jerikó

Jericho is the oldest inhabited city in the World, there were found the remains of more than 20 settlement, of which the first dates back 11.000 years… In the Bible Jericho appears very often:

The walls of Jerichofell after Joshua’s Israelites marched around the city every day for seven day with the Ark of the Covenant blowing their

Jesus passed through the city where he healed blind beggars.

In the nearby of Jericho is the Mount of Temptation, where Jesus was tempted by the Devil.

Jerikó a világ legrégebb idő óta lakott városa, több mint 20 település maradványait találták itt a régészek, amelyek közül az egyik 11.000 éves… Jerikó gyakran jelenik meg a Bibliában:

Jerikó falai leomlottak, miután Józsua izraelitái hét napig minden nap körbehordozták trombitálva a város körül a Frigyládát.

Jézus itt jártakor vak koldusokat gyógyított.

Jerikó közelében, a Kísértés hegyén kísértette meg Jézust az ördög.

Bethlehem / Betlehem 

Bethlehem is in Palestinian territory, it is where according to the legend Jesus was born. The cave where he was born is found in the Church of Nativity, it is one of the holiest sites for Christians and one of the oldest churches in the World. The Church is  World heritage site and it is a magnet for pilgrims. Betlehem Palesztin területen helyezkedik el, legenda szerint itt született Jézus. A barlang, ahol született, a Születés Templomában található, ami a keresztények egyik legszentebb helye és a világ egyik legrégebbi temploma. A templom világörökségi helyszín, és vonzza a zarándokokat.

  We went to the Shepherds’ field too where the angel visited the shepherds. The Christmas decorations were still on the buildings in March when we were there, so I guess around Christmas the celebration here can be really huge… Like in the Via Dolorosa at Easter (I wrote about it here The Old Town of Jerusalem). Elmentünk a Pásztorok mezejére, ahol az angyal meglátogatta a pásztorokat. A karácsonyi díszek még mindig kint voltak az épületeken Márciusban, amikor ott voltunk, úgyhogy azt hiszem, karácsonykor az ünneplés itt valóban óriási lehet … Mint a Via Dolorosa-n a húsvét ünneplése (írtam róla itt Jeruzsálem óvárosa)

  All these sights you can discover on your own by car – a bit difficult to drive to Palestine territory with an Israeli car – or during an excursion like we did while we visited Israel some weeks ago. Mindezeket a látnivalókat önállóan felfedezhetitek kocsival – bár egy kicsit nehéz behajtani palesztin területre egy izraeli autóval – vagy kirándulás során, ahogyan mi tettük, mikor néhány hete Izraelbe látogattunk.
