checking tumblr after 500 years, I'm still not writing anything yet and I'm hoping I'm not completely falling out of writing anytime soon.. I'm trying to get back to it but it's hard, but this request actually intrigued me! I love worldbuilding even though I'm not too great at it, but let's discuss.

I don't think I've ever explained it intricately, just throw it in here and there in various fics I've written, but yes, Eldest Bat has moved out of Gotham after Dick eventually took the Robin title.

The Eldest Bat has moved to somewhere on the coast of the USA instead, and not on the archipelago that is Gotham. He's still close to Gotham, but a little bit up north. On the lower right corner box, his city would be on the L-shaped indent on the land where Brooklyn, NY (where Sandman is) pointed towards.

His city is actually a port city! The city is often covered in fog, for whatever reason. Maybe I could think of an explanation for this, maybe pull up some whatever demonic bullshit like how Gotham has Barbatos in its city. But for now, I'll shamelessly admit it is for aesthetic reason.

The city is called "Grey Port." (simple, I know... But I'll never be as iconic as Jerry Siegel, who literally created a hero named Superman who comes from a small village called Smallville and moves to a big city literally called Metropolis... I aspire to be him.)

Grey port is very dull in its aesthetic. Living up to its name, it's always grey due to the fog and smoke, and it's humid and always chilly even during summer. Like, rainforest kind of humidity, but not that much, because it's still an industrialised city.

Deterrence through fear is definitely what the Eldest is popular for, but unintentionally. He's not at Jason's level of committing crimes—surprisingly!—it's just that, in the Eldest's method of vigilantism, the most efficient way to do something is when you have to do something illegal along the way. Several. He's confident in it, too, because he knows he could never get caught.

So, it's more like he doesn't intentionally try to instil fear into criminals, as a matter of fact, he tries to be fun during vigilantism, but it's just that fear is one of the few default feelings you could have for him as a criminal/his enemy. It's either fear or contempt, and most commonly it's both.

In terms of liveability, definitely better than Gotham. You could NOT go lower than that. It's Gotham's thing to be shitty and dark and miserable, where people still live there because the rent costs like a dollar per month, and I'll respect that. (This is a joke, I know Blüdhaven is worse.)

Grey Port is riddled with crimes, but not to the same insane intensity. As a matter of fact, after the Eldest Bat stopped being "Robin" and became his own thing, if someone asked him, he would've said it's like he's on retirement with how easy-going his city is sometimes. Sure, sometimes insane things happened. Like how Grey Port is situated on the coast of the water, where several demonic aquatic entities definitely live and want him gone, and some parts of the cities are kind of cursed—some long since history, some are... The Eldest's fault—and John Constantine kinda hated him for it, and the economy is kind of struggling, but it's nothing dire. The Eldest Bat helped economically in some part as his civilian persona's job as a Private Investigator (he definitely does more than a PI is supposed to do sometimes), but usually he just beats up bad guys for fun.

Usually, harder missions for him would be when he has to go to Gotham or Blüdhaven to help his family. That's when the kind of more insane, harder crimes he's used to would happen. Really interesting crimes/situations don't really happen in Grey Port, but it does so once every blue moon. And the Eldest never really tells anyone that it's happening until it's already over, and he'd casually mention it like "oh yeah, the other day Grey Port kinda split open. Insane, really. I didn't know demonic entities could do that!"

Actually, special bonus fact, but I'm thinking that Eldest Bat's "Robin" mantle wasn't actually called Robin when he first took the name. Maybe it could be another bird like Cardinal, but not Robin. Robin is something special to Dick; it was what his mother called him, and no one would ever know of that. It could symbolise changing the title into something brighter, more hopeful for Gotham. Eldest wasn't that to Gotham, so him being of a different title as a predecessor works best. Robin is something Dick really started, and he'll always turn to that name even when he's Nightwing. The Eldest doesn't.

Like, I’m pretty sure Eldest Bat’s no killing rule is pretty much nonexistent, and Ra’s would absolutely love an heir that was trained by The Batman for as long as Eldest Bat was and had no problem with killing, that’s like the perfect heir, if only he wasn’t so irritating

second, absolutely yes. Ra's would absolutely want the Eldest Bat as an heir. Batman 2.0 if not a little bit more insane and has no "Golden Rule"? He fucks with it HARD, but the thing is the Eldest Bat would fucking have his head before he could make him his heir. Eldest Bat has insane beef against Ra's for NO reason. He just hates the old man since the first time they saw him. Ra's is like the main contributor to who dunks the Eldest into the green pit the most, like he's almost competitive about it.

I guess he doesn't just hate Ra's for no reason too, because first of all, that's fucking Ra's al Ghul, and second of all, have you seen what Damian has gone through in his time in the LoA? Eldest Bat would hammer Ra's to death before he could finish his stupid little soliloquy.

And also because Eldest Bat just hates the concept of an heir in general. Like, he doesn't want to be Batman in the first place, even if Bruce were to die one day. Being Ra's heir? fat fucking chance. Damian wants to be Bruce's heir? Sure. Damian wants to be his only son? Awesome. Like, it's okay what other people think about it, but for him personally, hard pass.

so, eldest bat is basically unstoppable, and I think he would NOT have let joker live after killing Jason. like- in his mind I think he'd be like "well, someone has to it. Bruce? no? I'll do it myself then. (threat)"

Okay, first off: What kind of Job would the Eldest Bat have?

This is such a mundane but interesting question. Thank you for asking me this.

Let me say this first, but the Eldest Bat does not live off of Bruce's money. He thinks it's honestly too easy for him, and he loves to torture himself, so straight out of the house at eighteen, he'd probably be looking for a job for the love of the game. He's good at his job and rakes in some ridiculously large bags, but Bruce's money is still never really off the table, although he'd really ever touch that option when whatever he's paying for is catastrophic. Like, yeah, he's definitely not going to be paying for half of that twenty-something-story building he just obliterated last night with his own money. He's not the billionaire here.

I'm going to use this post as a way to brainstorm, so let's hold hands and go through this process with me, everyone... Heart emoji heart emoji.

Private Investigator

This is more like the "default" option to me. It comes to mind first, and it's easy for a vigilante like the Eldest to do as it fits the natural extension of vigilante work: surveillance, tailing people, reading through lies, digging through records. Eldest Bat would get results fast, and if not, he'll always find the truth. Like, he's so weirdly good at this that the police force in the city that he frequently works with gives him weird looks sometimes, but he's not doing anything wrong (or, rather, they can't find anything that he's doing wrong), and he always gives them the answer they need with the right price paid. The Eldest Bat needs that bag, and his clients need the information, so really, it's a symbiosis too great to be destroyed. For the sake of the city.

2. Crime Scene Cleanup Consulting (+ Forensic Recovery?)

Of course, even as a janitor, he's not the normal kind. He basically reconstructs crime scenes for insurance companies or investigators. Years of vigilante work forged him into someone who can walk into a room and immediately understand what happened from bloodstains and broken furniture. He's weirdly good at this, too. He's going to be weirdly good with all the jobs that he chose because he chose ones that he's already good at, but it's not like anyone can do anything about it. This applies to both this scenario and the previous one, but he often works with police forces outside his own city, including Gotham. Gordon probably hates how often his name comes up, but also... The Eldest Bat get things done.

3. Security Risk Consultant

The Eldest Bat would have so much fun with this job. Corporations basically hire him to break their own systems. Physical security tests, infiltration simulations, basically everything is on the table. "Show us how someone would rob us." The Eldest Bat would study the building for about twenty minutes, then demonstrate how an assassin would get in. A normal security risk consultant would just give advice, but no, he's going to put down his clipboard and actually start running up walls and throwing himself into vents to see how easy it is for a robber to get in. His clients are always so fucking scared of him, but he's right... But where did he even learn to do that... But don't worry, he never gives them advice that would make their security unbreakable, because one, that's a lot, and frankly, they're not paying him enough for that, and two, he might need to break into these companies in the future for information or in case they're actually shady. He never gives out security advice that he himself couldn't get through,

4. Bounty Recovery / Skip Tracing

I'd consider this a darker option from the rest, but fitting nonetheless. Basically, he tracks down people who've disappeared. Bail jumpers, debt runners, missing witnesses. It's morally grey enough that someone like him wouldn't feel like he's pretending to be respectable. Plus, it scratches that hunter itch without requiring a domino mask and a suit every time...

Okay, that's everything I could think of! All these jobs are possible paths that the Eldest Bat could take, but if I have to answer one, then I'd say I'd go with Private Investigator. Wow, boring, I know... But it lets him stalk people legally, analyse behaviour, and interrogate. He's been doing this shit for free for years, and he just found out people would pay him for it! Also, it absolutely scratches that hunter itch inside of him because it's kind of like stalking prey, and getting to do it legally? Say less!

Q: Do you think the other batkids ever thought about moving in with Eldest bat?

Why, absolutely! I've talked about this in one of the headcanons that has probably been lost in my masterlist by now, but Damian is the one person I've written about who has canonically tried to move to wherever his father lives instead. Wayne Manor is big and spacious, but what good is that when the only comfort he's been promised amidst all this chaos wouldn't even be with him? He was so ready to just turn around and walk out when he learned of this, but Alfred stopped him. He fought and got into arguments a lot with his family because of this, but eventually, after however long it took, he calmed down a bit. He'd still rather go live with his baba, and he seriously contemplates it every time someone in the family does something dumb that grates at his nerves... He's working on it... While Dick's relationship with you didn't start off great when he was adopted, he slowly came to like you over the years. But by the time he seriously loved you as a brother and wanted to spend more time with you, you were already eighteen and moving out. He was so sad and absolutely did try to sneak out and track down where his big brother went. Bruce caught him every damn time and dragged his ass back home. Jaybin never really did have the same problem since he was introduced into the family when Eldest Bat had already moved out. He loved it whenever you visited and loved spending time with you, but he never really tried to sneak out and go to you. Sure, there are times when he wishes to run away and go to you, even for like a minute or two, but he knows you'll always visit him again. The last sentiment also applied to both Cass and Tim. They all cared for you, but these three never really thought of actually moving in with you, although there are times when they temporarily did live with you. Jason is most often when he needed to get away from everyone, and people would surely track all his safehouses and hiding places down. Tim most prominently during that time when Bruce got lost in time. I'd like to bring up examples for Cassandra too, but I'm still reading her comics, and I still can't think about how I'd write her with the Eldest Bat yet... （；´д｀）ゞ

also now I couldn't stop imagining the Eldest Bat in Alice in Borderland because I like AiB so much... but to be honest, get that mf OUT of there, he'd revert back to his old ways of kill first, talk later so fast. The only saving grace characters have against him in that world is if they make themselves interesting before he kills them (if he sees them as a threat), then he'd be like "wait, I kinda like you" and won't try to put a hole in your skull.

I feel like he'd catch onto the Alice in Wonderland theme among the characters so fast because why is this pathetic loser's last name basically "Alice" and why is that short guy with damaged, bleached hair's last name a play on the word "Cheshire" like he's too smart to not know 🫩

Damian grew up to the the heir, recieving training and an education. But the twin? There’s no need for anything but training.

That could maybe be a point of frustration for them when they arrive in Gotham. In their eyes: everyone sees Damian as this super smart, bright beyond his years kid whilst they’re ’slow’. I could totally see them lashing out at eldest Batbro if he praises Damian for something and then the entire family realises just how ‘behind’ they are.

Maybe that’s why they like Tim so much, because he’s the one who’s helping them.

I love it when people ask me very specific questions I'd never in a million years thought I would have the opportunity to answer if I don't yap out of the blue.

But yes, damian's twin! reader was taught all of the basic things we all learn in elementary school up to middle school, but other than that, they don't know anything else. They didn't need to know. They didn't have the opportunity to study in depth because every day they're constantly being pressured by training and missions.
