“Holy New Bat-Equipment Launch, Batman!” The Bat-Boat!
60 years ago today, “Batman: The Movie” premiered in Austin, Texas. Was this some sort of a Bat-Ruse to thwart the Archvillains?
No! The reason for why it premiered in Austin, Texas ties in directly with the origin of the Bat-Boat.
The Bat-Boat was manufactured by the Glastron Boat Company with its corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas. This premiere’s location was part of the production deal struck with Glaston.
While the movie kicks off with the Bat-Copter flying over Gotham City en route to the ocean, the Bat-Boat appears twice.
First, when the Duo determine a buoy was nearby projecting the image of the luxury yacht. Instead of landing on the yacht, the Bat-Ladder passes through the mirage where Penguin’s exploding shark is.
Second, the Bat-Boat is used to pursue Penguin’s Submarine through Short Island Sound for the climatic Bat-Fight.
The Bat-Boat would be utilized in the series in the Second Season. The Bat-Boat is used to get the Duo over Spaghetti Island to thwart Sandman’s marriage to J. Pauline Spaghetti in order to steal her considerable fortune.
