when you're mean to me this is who you're being mean to
be normal about Mercury Falling challenge: FAILED
Thanks for answering! Also. Impulse is the guy that was in the current Justice League comic like 2-3 issues ago, no? I remember Batman and him reached the same conclusion but they were in different places and thought that was interesting. I don’t know if there’s more to interpret from that but yeah.
I’m mainly a Batman person but I do like to see him interact with others and if he’s okay with this little guy, I’ll be reading it. I’ve added Impulse to my list!!!
thanks, again.
Yay! That makes me so happy!
Yes, Impulse/Bart Allen was in Justice League Unlimited (2024) #5. In fact, the current Justice League Unlimited comic is written by the same guy (Mark Waid) who created Bart Allen and wrote the first 20ish issues of Impulse (1995)!
One special quality about Bart that I think gets overlooked is that he is a really quick thinker. Of course, his quick thinking, paired with his impulsivity, gets him in trouble, but Bart often comes up with creative solutions to problems that another person would not have thought of. Sometimes I think he gets to the core of the problem quicker than someone like Robin, not because he is a speedster and can think fast, but because he has a unique way of looking at things.
If you are looking for another Impulse comic where he interacts with a Batman villain, I recommend checking out Impulse (1995) #48. In this comic he goes up against the Riddler!
What are your favourite comics?
Great question! If we are talking about favorite comic book series I have to say Young Justice (1998). I recently did a reread of it and there is not a single bad issue in it.
Peter David is an incredible writer who masterfully plots his stories. I really love Todd Nauck's art and how he is able to capture the characters' youth and energy without it looking too childish. You can tell that YJ98's creative team took their audience seriously and respected their perspective. Can't recommend it enough.
If we are talking about favorite comic book issues my answer is Impulse (1995) #12.
I love Mark Waid's Impulse run in general. I think it's unique in the superhero genre because it's not about him being a superhero; it's about him learning how to be a "normal" boy while being a superhero.
Impulse #12 starts out really fun and typical. We see Bart hanging out with his cousin Jenni, who is also a super-speedster from the future. They play video games, visit the Rock and Roll Music Museum, and save Bart's school dance! It's really fun!
However, there is this undertone throughout the comic that Bart wants Jenni to stay in the 'present time' with him.
You see, Bart was raised in a VR environment. His dad is dead, he never knew his mother, and he can't see his Grandmother Iris West very much for *waves hands* reasons. Bart is a fun, friendly, popular kid but he is also very lonely.
Unfortunately for Bart, Jenni can't stay in the past/present with him. She has a life in the future, so she leaves him to go home to her time after the dance. At the end of the comic Bart writes a letter to Jenni and leaves it inside a saxophone at the Rock and Roll Music Museum for Jenni in the future to find.
It's a beautiful moment that's very heartfelt. I fear my description just doesn't do it justice. If you don't love Bart Allen already, you will after reading it.
Thanks for the ask!
