Merry Christmas! ✝️🎄 Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia!
Wigilia is the traditional Polish Catholic Christmas Eve supper. It begins with a prayer and with reading a passage from the Bible about the birth of Jesus.

It's a Polish Catholic tradition. In Poland, a Christmas Eve supper starts with a prayer and sharing the Christmas wafer (opłatek) — a thin, flour wafer stamped with Christmas imagery. Traditionally, a husband expresses his wishes and hopes to his wife, after which she breaks off a piece of the opłatek and eats it. She then reciprocates the good wishes and shares the wafer with her husband. And the ceremonial sharing of wafer and good wishes continues with older relatives, guests and children.
Polish people also send the Christmas wafers through the mail to their family members living far away. Even the pets and farm animals are given a piece of the opłatek. The opłatek tradition spread among Lithuanians, Czechs and Slovaks.
