Look, I’ve never wanted to make any post anyhwere near politics in this blog. But this is too much.
As always, many catalanophobic Spaniards are using the terrorist attack in Barcelona as an opportunity for “jokes”. And they’re not even new ones, they are just basically repeating the same they always say when a tragedy happens here, like when the GermanWings place crashed.
Here’s the translation of the tweets above:
I mean very well that you share the news about #Barcelona but those who died were Catalans not people there’s no need for alarm
This is what will end up happenning to all the catalans
Only one dead in #Barcelona? for god’s sake they could have finished them all they deserve that and more for doing what they shouldn’t
Couldn’t that moor have killed more catalufos [pejorative term for Catalan people]?
We have never lost humanity, we only put each one in their place, and Catalans hate Spain, come on this is karma
Driving license to all terrorist moors, only for the joy of seeing a dead catalan #barcelona
I think it’s terrible that there was only one dead in the attack in #Barcelona when they could have killed them all. Hala Madrid!
[Note: “Moor” is a very pejorative word in Spanish to refer to people from North Africa, especially those from Morocco]
This happens every single time. Plus add dozens of tweets calling our politicians ret*arded, sub-normals, and many other derrogatory names for addressing the citizens of Barcelona in their own language: the Catalan language (which these people called “infect dialect”, “fucking minoritary dialect”, “shameful language” and “dialect of shit”, among many others).
All the official statements have been released in the three languages: Catalan (the local language), Spanish (the language of the state), and English. If these people are complaining it’s not because they can’t understand our language, but because they are mad that they couldn’t eliminate it. And not to start with why referring to minoritary languages as dialect is very disrespectful.
Anyway I know no one will read this or care much besides us Catalans who have already been hearing this for a long time. But here it is.
