Summary:
As a kid, Duke rarely ever got sick.
It was actually something of a running joke amongst his friends and classmates. They’d all be out at least a few times a year for the standard assortment of head colds and ear infections and stomach bugs, while Duke would spend three straight days getting coughed on by his lab partner and still finish off the semester with perfect attendance. He managed to dodge class-wide outbreaks of chickenpox, pink eye, and head lice. Once in fourth grade, he’d skinned both his knees playing freeze tag during recess, then had to explain to the baffled nurse who’d cleaned the blood off and applied Transformers bandaids that, no, he wasn’t new to the district, he’d actually been at that school since kindergarten, and yes, it was very nice to finally meet her.
“It’s because I splurged for the premium prenatal vitamins,” his mom would joke, while his dad would just wink and insist it was because Duke had inherited those hearty Thomas family genes. Either way, Duke was grateful.
Of course, the flip side to rarely ever falling ill is that whenever something does slip past his body’s defenses, he feels woefully unprepared...

Vote Cass and Duke for the Sun and Moon poll!
They’re an iconic sibling duo first of all. Cass helps Duke learn to use shadows, he is her guiding light during the confrontation with her mother. They trust each other completely. Cass silence and stealth balances with Duke’s brash behaviour perfectly. She pulls him back to the team when he starts running on fumes, he reminds her she has a place with among everyone when she begins to doubt.
Also siblings who talk back to Bruce and disregard his orders together stick together!
Cass and Duke are the ultimate Sun and Moon duo. I mean look at them.
So go vote for them in the sun and moon duo bracket!
It’d been a clear-cut case, no suspicion towards her; she played the grieving girlfriend well enough to fake getting out of it. Of course, Jason knew her better than most; knew that she was hiding something from the public eye, the police, and the rest of his family.
He quietly sat beside her on the iron bench outside the backyard of the manor, taking a moment to look over her appearance; she was wrapped up in one of his hoodies and a pair of his sweatpants, covered by one of the throws from the living room. “I need you to be honest with me,” he said lowly. “I know what you told the cops wasn’t what really happened.”
She didn’t look at him, finger tapping against the wine glass as she replied, “He fell down the stairs and hit his head. I didn’t push him.”
“I know you didn’t. But you had time to call the police,” Jason retorted. “Why didn’t you.”
For a moment, she was quiet, then she set the glass down and leaned back, pulling up the hoodie to reveal a black bruise that bloomed up her side; she let him take it in, then murmured, “I dreaded hearing his key in the door every night. I would try and try and try to make excuses for him, but nothing stopped his anger. If the house wasn’t clean, if dinner wasn’t cooked, if anything wasn’t the way he liked, I paid for it.”
She turned, staring at him as she admitted, “I had time to call the police. But I waited to make sure he wasn’t going to get up before I did. I wasn’t going to let him put his hands on me ever again.”
Jason’s brows furrowed; his heart ached in his chest. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve—”
“You would’ve killed him, Jason,” she interrupted. “At least now, it was an accident and not on purpose.”
He looked away for a moment then reached out and took her hand. “I’m sorry I didn’t know.”
“I didn’t tell you,” she excused. “But…thanks anyway.”
Jason shifted his arm and put it around her, tugging her closer to him; she rested her head on his shoulder and he whispered, “You know I’d never put my hands on you…you know that, right?”
She inhaled deeply and nodded. “I do. And that’s why I’m not afraid of you, Jason.” Craning her neck, she looked at him. “I’ve never been afraid of you.”

Breaking out a teenager from prison that is loyal to a genocidal maniac and has been dropped into the Lazarus Pit one too many times is probably not the best idea that Jason Todd has had.Â
But Jason's done crazy things before.
