I went to the #backyardfood shop in peterborough yesterday and filled up my jars and paper bags to leave 0 food waste. It was a great experience with very friendly people and my conscience was clear buying the products. Later in the day I went to Asda (a big supermarket found in most U.K. cities). The experience couldn’t have been more different. Firstly, I couldn’t find any bread which was not wrapped in plastic. There were 20+ varieties of bread and all of them were in plastic. I then went to the bakers area and asked if they could help me, they said they couldn’t and while one worker apologised to me for this, her boss told her not to apologise. I know it’s not their fault, so I wouldn’t expect them to apologise, but perhaps if more people do this, they will pass on the message to their superiors who might listen. As a result, I did not buy any bread....but I really want some 😢 This is just one example of the type of burden to bear while trying to live a #sustainablelifestyle. End of the season tomatoes! They grew a little taller than I thought so they toppled a bit when I didn't have proper cages to hold them up. They've been producing a lot! I've got 4 gallons size bags in the freezer so far.
