An anime us all have been watching. When watching it, we feel like the kids who got started into shonen many years ago. Each episode has a lot packed in, which gives us material for our beloved in-sys debates. SPOILERS FOR EPISODES 8-10. It´s revealed princess Finé has a split personality; her alter is a typical haha evil murder alter who only cares about killing and abusing others. Ngl, I liked her a lot, but my sister was understandably mad. It´s a negative and insensitive trope that shows lack of knowledge on the writers´ behalf. It´s also offensive even to me that this reveal was used as ¨totally the sweetest and most innocent girl...you sure didn´t expect she had a...GASP! Split personality. We may have to broadcast this show later at night, boys. Good job for today¨. To me, ¨the other Finé¨ (which the alter isn´t shown to dislike being reffered as) being a psychopath and having agency for the short time she spent in the story is good. She´s just like the other psychopathic, jerky characters in the show. I liked that. Portraying us as simply good angels is the same as painting us as ¨the tragic wish-fulfilling fantasies of deranged people.¨ Besides, in the opening she´s shown as a ruthless individual ready to set her claws on things and step on everyone in her way. She´s a bad person, and that´s great. The supposed problem: everyone was talking about her condition as something horrific and shocking. Even Arrow, the until-then prejudice-less protagonist, shows contempt and disgust when he says to Rudolf ¨so the princess being like that is YOUR fault!¨. To me, it simply displays the way everybody perceives it. That doesn´t mean they´re right. I´m also not saying the writers are innocent, all of this does sound awfully like ¨alters are gross and scary, we´re brave for bringing this horrible topic to you, dear viewers¨. They just forgot me, an alter, would also be a viewer. Princess Finé herself lamented to Prax she ¨couldn´t hold her back.¨ When she sealed the other Finé away (yeah sucky narrative), she told her ¨I hid behind you because I was scared of the responsibility to rule, but I don´t need you anymore--you can rest.¨ She was never mean, in my conception, to the other Finé, considering the latter was about to commit g3n0cide. That said, it was the writer´s way to have the scary murder alter ¨put away in the nicest way possible.¨ So, it becomes not about the alter, but about the act of heroism of the host who puts them away. 🤢🤢🤢 I see it as ¨the other Finé was a terrible person, so the other characters had to defeat her, but in the process exposed their terrible biases and pre-loaded prejudice.¨ It´s a painfully perfect mirror to the writers´ hearts in making this subplot! Since Finé was the one who lived with the other Finé, she´s less biased against her, but the other Finé was never interested in letting a good and nurturing relationship develop between them. The other Finé also actively jeopardized princess Finé´s plans to absolute peace. The other Finé was objectively wrong, but is a very interesting character and I relate to her in many aspects.
