Jacob has always talked about his other projects openly during promo season. Depends on when his other projects were allowed to be talked about. He talked about "Bad apples" in an article during season 2, attended "Timestalker" events around that time, he missed SDCC right after season 2 because he was doing RR concert 2 days later.
Sam was doing TNR along with IWTV. He has also done promo for that show. Podcasts, small interviews etc. Eric has talked about his drama.
Talking about their other projects while working on the show or during promo season is not new.
