They both know they are going on a trip for some duties that Crowley shoved on them (that were probably his in the first place) that involved staying the night at a hotel.

Azul, having been crushing on Riddle for the longest time now, sees this as the perfect opportunity. As the one in charge of booking the room, he calls the respsoniest a week in advance to tell them there is only one bed when they show up after Azul “forgets” to book a room in advance (he does but it’s the one with one bed) bribing them with some money he’d earnt form the lounge.

Riddle goes about things a similar way, also wanting the opportunity to sleep next to the guy he’d been slowly falling in love with. He wasn’t put in charge of booking the rooms however, but he can convince a few of his friends as well as using a good chunk of his own money (it’s from his mother who I’m sure would approve of this use) to buy out all but the single rooms for the night, putting Azul in a position to have to buy a single one!

When Azul finnaly does buy the room, he sees this and beilves his plan to be a waste, afterall there was only one room anways! But he carries on with the plan none the less, quietly fuming about the waste of money.

Riddle, when they show up to the hotel and Azul has to rapidly book a room only to find one single room is also upset. Had he known that Azul would forget he wouldn’t have spent all that money, afterall their would’ve only been one bed rooms by that time anyways!

They both go to bed in their shared bed that night, a mix of happiness to be so close to the one they love, but also rage as the fact that they didn’t have to spend all that money, unaware that the other was the reason for it in the first place.

Idk I feel like it could be a cute thing for Riddle to like teach Azul, getting his boyfriend into his own hobbies is something he likes to do afterall.

However, as he’s venting to Azul about this, as any good boyfriend should, he offers to help Riddle and do preparations for the unbirthday party.

Riddle wants to say no, it’s a Heartslabyul tradition afterall, but it would be far more offensive to the Queens rules to not have a birthday party or to have one so out of code that it would only bring disrespect. Plus, it was Azul out of all people, Riddle trusted that if anyone could get the job done it would be him.

So while Riddles still juggling his other duties Azul takes over, managing preparations incredibly efficiently, his expirence as the owner of the monstro lounge as well as his general power as the housewarden of Octanville coming in and making everything run smoothly.

When Riddle finnaly finishes his other duties he heads to the dorm to find a perfectly prepped unbirthday party waiting for him, the roses painted red, the dorm mouse in the teapot. It’s down to the letter, even more so then he would do after his overblot. It turns out Azul had memorized every Queen of hearts Rule after they had begun dating, making sure every date they went on or conversation they had fell in line just for Riddle, it was only through the party that he was really able to show off.

As Riddle goes to thank him though Azul finnaly explains what he wants for his end of the deal, nothing is ever for free of course.

The one thing he wants is to attend the unbirthday party with Riddle, something that Riddle has wished for aswell. But, normally non Heartslabyul students are not allowed.

However, according to Queen of hearts rules those given special permission for good reason are allowed to come, and it just so happens that Riddle has the authority, and it would be for a special reason afterall.

azul has been practicing for ages so he can casually drop the fact that he's better at them than riddle. when he starts receiving books from riddle, he thinks that riddle is personally challenging him, while also placing azul in his debt. as "payback," azul sends riddle some crossword books of his own—ones that center around coral sea culture, etc. ones that riddle surely wouldn't be able to do that easily. he receives them back within the hour, completed with the times written on each page (a habit of riddle's (hc)), and a polite note of thanks. somehow, riddle has beaten azul's record on all of them. azul is enraged.

they continue to send each other books, azul trying to find the nichest possible topics (he would send riddle pop culture ones, but even he isn't very good at those). eventually, the topic comes up in-person. riddle is completely pleasant about it. azul's eye is twitching about it. riddle also eventually includes a note congratulating azul on his improvement. azul has mixed feelings—irritation at what must be condescension, but also an odd feeling of pride at the recognition? of course, he only keeps the note because it's a reminder of how much harder he needs to work.

Then branching this out to Azurido (because everything goes back to them) I feel like Riddle would try and ask Azul a riddle atleast once a week to test his skills for their ‘rivalry’ or whatever and finding it funny if Azul was ever stumped by them.

Howver, when Riddle eventually catches feelings, these Riddles turn into flirting/mini confessions where Riddle increases the difficulty so Azul never figures out that Riddles basically telling him that he looks very wonderful today.

Azul however is smart and would eventually catch on, only to give Riddle a Riddle of his own, where once it’s solved is asking him out in a date.

It starts off simple with Riddle having read slightly ahead of Azul, no bother happens sometimes. Howver, Azul, being the petty guy he is, does the same the next time, only going an extra page further. Riddle, already having promised to not let anyone catch up to him, not even Azul, retaliates by reading even further ahead the next time.

This back and forth countines until their is practically no need for study dates as they are both too busy spending their other time trying to one up the other, and the actual time meant for studying bragging and scheming on how to get ahead next time.

Eventually once they realize they are so far ahead in the circulcum that it’s actually harming them rather than helping them do they finnaly come to an agreement to stop, thus ending their saga of back in forth.
