dream!riddle’s main fear is having the fun parts of life pass him by. this could, perhaps, include having a hot popular boyfriend. in a similar vein, dream!azul is terrified of not fitting in. dream!riddle would rather die than fit in.

so in this hypothetical AU, they live in the same world. riddle lives in a coastal town in the Queendom of Roses, and azul lives just off-shore, as close as you can get while still remaining in fairly deep water. I also imagine that the merfolk and human society would be at least a little integrated—transformations are probably very common

dream!azul finds the concept of going to land abhorrent. in this AU, there would be something very significant to make him go. I propose that his mother decides to expand the business to a location closer to the beach, with a surface-side seating area that land-dwellers can have access to. she sends azul up to help out on the surface side of things

I can see azul first seeing riddle performing at one of his concerts/protests. azul is looking on with a judgmental disposition, finding music on land to be rather silly. but then he watches as the protest is interrupted by the police, who try to get riddle into their car. weirdly, azul feels indignant on riddle’s behalf. he tries to step in —”my step-father is a lawyer” style—but riddle just gives him a little smirk and wink, and he’s immediately a goner. never stood a chance.

I just really like the thought of “suave” (<-blustery) jock azul x confident, free, punk riddle. I like the comedic potential and Vibes

I have this image in my head. riddle sitting on a table during an afterparty for one of azul’s games (in the land seating for la grotta), swinging his legs and bending to talk to azul, who’s in the water. someone else tries to sit on a table, and azul is like “have you no respect??” the kid is like “but you let him do it…” and azul just gives him this death glare. riddle’s the only one he would let sit on his mother’s restaurant tables

would dream!riddle ridicule the concept of sports like coral rush, because of the rules involved? “where's the fun,” etc? would they play a game of something together, with basically no rules other than the ones they invent on the fly?
