it's 4 in the morning and i feel like talking to somebody about cc sephiroth, but none of my friends give a shit about ff so im going to ramble to you instead.
i was replaying crisis core and i got to this bit, here:
that i must have forgotten about during my first playthrough. and holy shit you will not believe how i searched for the untranslated japanese version of this screenshot, because it would be more detailed. but no avail. but i found this
やつれる (yatsureta) means to be haggard; to be gaunt; to be emaciated; to be worn out (e.g. illness, worry).
took that from a japanese dictionary
that implies sephiroth was either
A: eating less because of the stress of his two only friends fucking disappearing
B: loosing weight faster because of the stress of his only two friends fucking disappearing
either way i am very sad
and i will probably regret not turning on anon when i wake up again
That bit always gut punches me. I think Crisis Core does a really, really good job of giving you subtle little hints about how bad a place Sephiroth is in leading up to Nibelheim.
Like, they could have easily just told you flat out he’s not himself/hasn’t been himself in a while but I much prefer if this way — it makes you look back if you missed these little cues and realize ‘oh wow, he really was hanging by a few threads by the time Nibelheim happens’.
Plus it’s just...sad. You know Angeal (and probably Genesis, to an extent) probably looked out for him, and to just lose those people without them even asking for your help and then being told it’s your job to hunt them down has got to be awful.
